Analysis by PMOI/MEK
Iran, August 18, 2021—With the rising number of coronavirus casualties, the criminal policies of the regime ruling Iran in this regard are being exposed. Prior to the emergence of the delta variant, Covid-19 had provided an opportunity and blessing for Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei to temporarily delay the brewing storm of nationwide popular protests.
Now, various aspects of this policy are gaining attention as a result of the power struggle among the regime’s ruling factions, some corners of this policy have become clear. Remarks made by various government officials show that the scope of corruption and crime does not end with one or few regime officials. All signs indicate Ali Khamenei was involved in a horrific crime against the Iranian people.
During this period, any social issue can quickly evolve into a political crisis for the regime, and the situation on the ground can significantly threaten the regime.
The coronavirus, used by the regime to kill the Iranian people, is now becoming the very cause of escalating social unrest.

The need to hold Khamenei accountable
The daily presentation of the actual death toll by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has left no room for concealing the true number of covid victims.
“The issue is temporary and not an extraordinary one. Of course, I do not say that the issue is too small. However, we should not make a big fuss about Covid-19. This will be here a short while, and then it will disappear,” said Khamenei, on March 4, 2020.
Khamenei banned the purchase of globally approved vaccines on January 8, 2021 and showed he intends to deliberately kill the Iranian people.
“American and British vaccines are not allowed in the country. I had told the officials about this before and I say it publicly now,” he said at the time.

At the time the Iranian opposition PMOI/MEK emphasized that the regime’s official death toll is engineered, only to fall on deaf ears. Today, however, even state-run newspapers in Iran are admitting that these statistics are fake and demand the perpetrators be brought to court.
“The perpetrators of today’s status quo must be brought to justice. According to official statistics, about 500 people are dying every day, and according to unofficial statistics and calculations by the World Health Organization, which believes that the death rate due to Covid-19 in Iran is 2.5 times higher than official statistics, meaning around 1,500 people die each day. These people would have survived if vaccinated on time with globally approved vaccines, and they could still be members of their families. However, all of them lost their lives due to the recklessness of some high-ranking health officials. The blood of all those lost as a result of this mismanagement is on the hands of officials who were supposed to protect the people. Yet with false statements and strange remarks, they made the situation deteriorate even further. If there is justice, all of them must be brought to justice and held accountable for the suffering they have inflicted on the people,” according to an August 15 article published in the state-run Mardomsalari daily.
Can anyone other than Khamenei and the criminal leaders of his regime be held responsible for this genocide?

A futile attempt to whitewash Khamenei’s role
Now that Khamenei’s role in this genocide has been revealed due to his orders banning the purchase of approved vaccines, his subordinates have launched a orchestrated effort to clear him of any blame and criticism.
“In the meantime, there was a great deal of suspicion that the statements of the Supreme Leader about the ban on importing vaccines made in the United States and Britain were induced as a ban on the import of vaccines in general. He never opposed the import of vaccines, but from a safe and traceable source,” according to an August 15 report by the state-run Resalat daily.
Such words are now falling on deaf ears among the Iranian people, as anger continues to escalate among the nation’s already restive society.
