Iran, June 30, 2020—Over 63,200 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 341 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Tuesday afternoon local time, June 30. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 10,817, around a sixth of the actual figure.
The death toll in various provinces include: 16,400 in Tehran, 2,325 in Lorestan, 1,890 in East Azerbaijan, 1,725 in West Azerbaijan, 1,295 in Kurdistan, 625 in Hormozgan, 420 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and 325 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.
Spokesperson for the regime’s Health Ministry said on Tuesday noon local time that 147 people have died of the novel coronavirus in the past 24-hour period. “The provinces of Khuzestan, Kurdistan, East and West Azarbaijans, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Razavi Khorasan and Kermanshah are in code red conditions and have the highest number of cases, hospitalized patients and deaths. Furthermore, the provinces of Sistan & Baluchistan, Ilam, Lorestan and Golestan are on warning alert,” she said.

“The city of Tehran continues to face an increasing trend of new COVID-19 cases. In the past 24 hours more than 425 new patients were hospitalized in the general sectors of various hospitals while 102 patients were placed in ICU in various parts of Tehran,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran COVID-19 Task Force on Monday, according to the Fars news agency, affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
In hospitals under the supervision of the Tehran Medical Sciences University “nearly all the beds allocated for coronavirus patients are occupied… Between March the 7th and 12th we had the highest number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized. If we once again reach such numbers, which is quite likely considering the illness’ trend and we might surpass such circumstances, there will no longer be any capacity to overcome this matter,” said the University deputy dean on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency. “In the next 15 days the number of new cases, hospitalized patients and deaths of patients suffering from this virus will increase in this country,” he added.

“In cities across Khuzestan nearly all the ICU beds are occupied despite the fact that we have increased the number of our ICU beds, … We have not witnessed a decreasing trend in our ICU sector,” said the caretaker of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University in Ahvaz, the capital city of Khuzestan province, on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
Khaneyeh Melat, the website of the Majlis (Parliament), quoted the representative of Bukan, Western Azerbaijan province, as saying, “We’re faced with serious shortages of medication, medical equipment, and treatment and sanitation material. Hospital beds in Bukan have been filled. Bukan’s Gholipour hospital is filled and there are no free beds for coronavirus patients… If the government would provide the needs of the people for one month so that they can shut down their businesses and stay at home, the spread of the virus will be contained to a great degree and hospitals will not face problems.”
“Today, the number of cases in Mashhad is at the highest level since the beginning of the outbreak,” said the secretary of the coronavirus workgroup of Mashhad Medical Sciences University. “There are now more than 600 hospitalized patients in hospitals covered by Mashhad University, which is the greatest number during the spread of the virus,” he added, as reported by Borna news agency.
In Ardebil province, the dean of the medical sciences university confirmed that the number of hospitalized patients is increasing every day, Mehr News Agency reported on Monday. “If this situation continues, the hospitals will not have the capacity to respond to the needs of patients,” the dean said.
In Fars province, Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) quoted the dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University as saying, “In the past few weeks, the number of hospitalized patients in the hospitals of the province and in Shiraz has increased dramatically. We were forced to allocate hospitals that we had considered as ‘phase two’ facilities to coronavirus patients. Until now, more than 400 of the medical staff in the province have contracted coronavirus, and work exhaustion levels are very high.”
The head of the sanitation and treatment network in Malayer, Hamedan province, confirmed that the spread of coronavirus has increased after the month of Ramadan, IRNA reported. “If this trend continues, we predict that all hospitals of Malayer will be filled by July 10.”
In Bushehr province, the dean of the medical sciences university said, “the number of patients hospitalized in ICU sections of Bushehr’s hospitals has been increasing and a number of them are under ventilator support.”
