One year has passed from the Iranian regime’s heinous execution of 69-year-old veteran political prisoner and PMOI member Behrouz Ehsani, alongside his fellow PMOI member Mehdi Hassani. Their executions on July 27, 2025, were not acts of judicial justice, but rather a calculated and desperate act of terror.
The clerical regime carried out these state-sanctioned murders in a bid to intimidate a restless, defiant population and a growing movement of youth gravitating toward the Iranian Resistance. Behrouz Ehsani’s death perfectly encapsulates the PMOI’s six-decade history of struggle against both the Shah and the mullahs—a history defined by brave men and women who consciously give their lives for the cause of freedom in Iran.
Shortly after receiving his death sentence in March 2025, Ehsani penned a letter from prison that illustrated his unwavering determination to continue the PMOI’s path.
Demonstrating his profound lack of fear, Ehsani noted that upon receiving his execution order, he wrote a Quranic verse beneath it: “Every soul will taste death.” He explained this meant every being eventually owes a life to God, but what truly matters is how one chooses to live.
He framed his struggle as a fundamental moral crossroads, stating that one must choose between “giving up one’s own interests and standing on the side of the people, or thinking of one’s own interests and standing on the side of a repressive and false regime.” Consciously embracing martyrdom, he wrote: “I will sacrifice my life with absolute sincerity so that our people and my family can have a dignified and honorable life in a free and prosperous Iran, away from coercion.”
A sham trial and a regime’s desperation
Ehsani was originally arrested in Tehran on December 6, 2022. From the moment of his arrest, he was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture in the notorious Ward 209 of Evin Prison. In a trial that Amnesty International condemned as “extremely unfair,” he was sentenced to death for “baghi” (armed rebellion) and “membership in the Mojahedin (PMOI)” by the ruthless judge Iman Afshari.
The regime’s Supreme Court later dismissed his requests for judicial review without even obtaining the original case files, highlighting the judiciary’s total mockery of due process.
Despite the torture and his predetermined fate, Ehsani’s spirit remained unbroken. He defiantly declared: “I will not bargain with anyone over my life and am ready to sacrifice my life for the cause of the liberation of the Iranian people.”
A force the regime cannot destroy
Executions and brutality do not crush the Iranian Resistance; instead, they only harden the resolve of PMOI members to overthrow the regime. In his letter, Ehsani thanked his brothers and sisters in Ashraf 3, supporters worldwide, and participants in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, proving that the resistance remains deeply united.
He attributed these global campaigns to the leadership of Maryam Rajavi and his fellow PMOI members, looking forward to a day when Iranians of all faiths and creeds can live together honorably.
By murdering Behrouz Ehsani, Khamenei’s regime exposed its profound weakness and fear. A movement built on six decades of selfless sacrifice—driven by individuals who don’t fear death—is the kind of force that the mullahs can never destroy.

Great and honorable nation of Iran, human rights defenders everywhere in the world,
Now that my death sentence has been communicated to me for some time and I remain in prison, on the day the sentence was handed down to me, I wrote beneath it: “Kullu nafsin dhaa’iqatul mawt” (Every soul will taste death).
This means that every living being owes a life to God, which must be paid sooner or later. However, in my opinion, a human being must continue their honorable life until they find themselves at a crossroads of choice.
That choice is determining which side of history they want to stand on: giving up one’s own interests and standing on the side of the people, or thinking of one’s own interests and standing on the side of a repressive and false regime.
In my view, one must choose to forgo personal interests, stand with the people, and continue on the honorable path of human evolution. This continues until the day we reach another crossroads, where standing on the side of the people might require the sacrifice of one’s life.
It is here that one must submit to God’s command and lay down their life for the path of evolution. Now, I have reached this point, and if necessary, I will sacrifice my life with absolute sincerity so that our people and my family may have a dignified and honorable life in a free and prosperous Iran, away from coercion, as God wills.
In this regard, a large number of compatriots, brothers and sisters in Ashraf 3, and PMOI supporters around the world have shown their kindness and grace by expressing their outrage over my death sentence and those of all prisoners on death row.
Many also participated in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. It is fitting that I express my deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to all the free-thinking compatriots who showed this kindness, dedicating their time and energy through heat and cold to participate in gatherings, demonstrations, and actions.
I also extend my special thanks to all international figures, human rights defenders, and lawyers across the world who supported the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign.
I have no doubt that all these actions would not have been possible without the efforts of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and my sisters and brothers in the PMOI. May the day arrive when, in a free and prosperous Iran—devoid of executions, coercion, and compulsion—we can live honorably together, regardless of religion, creed, or ideology, in a manner worthy of the Iranian people. Please accept my warmest greetings and regards from the depths of prison.
