“We do not consider this Nowrouz (Iranian calendar New Year – March 20) to be a period of calm. If we had better managed the four weeks leading to this day we would have had a calm spring season,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Wednesday, according to state TV.

“Three provinces in the north, Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan, and three in the south, Hormozgan, Bushehr and Khuzestan, along with the cities of Shiraz, Mashhad and Isfahan are all yellow areas. Commuting to these areas is forbidden,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Tuesday. “Without a doubt we have the mutated version of Covid-19 in all the country’s provinces. This has been proven or will be proven in time. In Khuzestan province we have 30 to 33 deaths, meaning one third of the country, regarding the UK strain of Covid-19,” he added, according to state TV.

“The number of new patients hospitalized in Tehran with Covid-19 reached 420, of which 92 were placed in ICUs. The total number of such patients hospitalized across the province stands at 2055, and around 792 are ICUs,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “The most important issue and challenge facing us today across the country, including Tehran, is the mutated strain of Covid-19 that is making even the youths ill, and it can result in a high death rate,” he added, according to state TV.

Dean of the Ahvaz Medical Sciences University in Khuzestan province said on Thursday that there are 1500 Covid-19 patients hospitalized across this province. “Around 366 of these patients are in ICUs and around 60 are in dire conditions and under ventilators. We have analyzed the number of coronavirus deaths from February 8 to March 2. One third of them were in hospitals for less than 24 hours. Around 56 percent of the Khuzestan samples are of the UK strain, which has resulted in a faster spread and stronger virus, and of course, leading to a higher death rate,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of new Covid-19 cases during the past 24 hours alone witnessed a 35 percent increase in the district of Kashan,” said the dean of Kahan Medical Sciences University in Isfahan province on Thursday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

The spokesperson of the Yazd Medical University said 11 patients have been registered to have the UK strain of Covid-19, adding they are in the cities of Yazd, Ardakan, Meybad and Khatam. “163 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, of which 44 are in ICUs,” this official reported on Wednesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“535 people across [Fars] province are hospitalized due to coronavirus, of which 105 are in ICUs,” said the director of public relations in the Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Mehr news agency.
