Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, May 01, 2020—Over 38,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 309 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, May 2. The official death count declared by the regime is 6,156, less than a sixth of the actual figure.

The death toll in various provinces include: 2,450 in Isfahan, 2,430 in Mazandaran, 1,840 in Khuzestan, 1,390 in Alborz, 1,190 in West Azerbaijan, 985 in Fars, 890 in Lorestan, and 145 in Hormozgan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

In Alborz Province, northern Iran, the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths has increased and the Khomeini, Takhte Jamshid, Bahonar, and Social Security hospitals in the city of Karaj are filled with coronavirus patients.

In Razavi Khorasan Province, northeast Iran, the governor, Alireza Razm-Hossein, said the province “is considered a red status area… there is a possibility that in the next few days we will be witnessing an increase in the number of COVID-19 CASES,” according to a report wired on Friday, May 1, by the state-run ISNA news agency.

In Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran, the Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University announced: “Considering the assessment of an explosive increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the coming days… there is a possibility of harsher and more serious restrictions being imposed across Khuzestan Province” and “a complete shut down next week” is being reviewed, according to another ISNA reported wired on Friday.

Iranian regime Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi made insulting remarks recently. “In Iran if the main reason of death is the coronavirus, it will be registered as such. As a result, Iran’s COVID-19 stats regarding the number of deaths are far more transparent than Western European nations… and there are around 72 cities considered red areas.”

However, Alireza Raisi, another Deputy Health Minister, announced the number of red cities at 60 cases on April 28.

Meanwhile, regarding the second and third wave of coronavirus in fall, Mohammad Reza Shanesaz, the president of the Food and Drug Organization, said, “We have no doubt that it will happen and when it will happen. It will definitely happen… in October, November and December, our concern is very serious.” (Source: ISNA)

At the same time, the regime’s economic crises continue to escalate. In a session in Mashhad, Gholamhossein Shafei, the president of the regime’s Chamber of Commerce, said, “To date, hundreds of thousands of economic firms are faced with problems due to the coronavirus outbreak.” In the same session, Nasrollah Pejmanfar, president of the Council of Parliament Members in Razavi Khorasan province, said, “the government can allocate part of the credit it was supposed to give as unemployment insurance to work units.” This is a clear scheme to avoid providing support to the masses who have lost their jobs.

Mohammad Javad Fadai, the governor of Kerman, said, “The shutdown of different sectors and markets will have negative effects on the society,” and added that the National Development Fund has so far extended no aid to the province of Kerman. The general manager of economic affairs in Kerman, “183,000 production and economic units in the province have been damaged due to the coronavirus outbreak. The initial estimates pertain to 35 trillion rials in damage to the province.”

Ahmad Khatami, a member of the governing board of the Assembly of Experts and the provisional Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran, revealed the regime’s fear of its lies being exposed. “In the midst of the coronavirus, some people shouldn’t cause problems in society with rumors, they should cause problems with false coronavirus news. You can see how foreign satellite channels are amplifying the smallest things they find against this nation.” (Source: Channel 1 TV)
