In a fatal miscalculation, the clerical regime in Tehran sought to silence the Iranian people through the gallows. On July 27, 2025, in a heinous act of state-sanctioned murder, it executed political prisoners and members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani. This crime, part of a desperate and brutal campaign by Khamenei’s regime to crush dissent, was intended to terrorize a nation seething with anger.
Instead, it has poured fuel on the fire. The regime’s act of brutality was not met with silence, but with a swift and courageous wave of defiance. Across Iran, the PMOI’s network of Resistance Units immediately took to the streets, proving that for every hero the regime martyrs, a thousand more will rise to take their place.

A nationwide vow: The resistance units answer the call
The regime’s message of death was answered with a nationwide vow for freedom. In cities across the country, including Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahvaz, Rasht, Kerman, Sari, Zahedan, Yasuj, and Khorramabad, Resistance Units mobilized. They transformed public spaces into platforms of defiance, displaying placards with messages that directly challenged the authority of the supreme leader and promised retribution.
These were not scattered acts of anger, but the coordinated response of an organized movement. Their slogans were a direct pledge to continue the fight: “A thousand Resistance Units will continue the path of Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani,” read one placard. Another declared, “We will avenge these martyrs by overthrowing this criminal regime.” This nationwide campaign sends an unmistakable message to the mullahs in Tehran: your brutality will only hasten your downfall.

The spirit of the martyrs lives in the Resistance
The bravery seen on the streets of Iran is a direct continuation of the unbreakable spirit shown by the martyrs themselves. Behrouz Ehsani, 69, and Mehdi Hassani, 48, endured horrific torture and a sham trial where they were denied basic legal rights. Yet, they never surrendered.
After his death sentence was confirmed, Behrouz Ehsani sent out a message that has now become a creed for the resistance movement. He declared, “I will not bargain with anyone over my life and am ready to sacrifice my life for the cause of the liberation of the Iranian people.” That very spirit now animates the thousands of Resistance Unit members who are honoring their memory not with sorrow, but with defiant action to achieve the free Iran for which these heroes gave their lives. Their placards echo this sentiment: “With their execution, Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani showed that there will be no surrender.”

A regime haunted by its own brutality
These executions are not a sign of strength, but of the regime’s profound weakness and fear. Under the presidency of the so-called “moderate” Masoud Pezeshkian, the regime has executed more than 1,400 people, shattering any illusion that reform is possible from within this system. Khamenei’s regime is terrified of the growing power of the organized opposition and a public that is on the verge of an uprising.
The courageous response from the Resistance Units proves the regime’s fear is justified. The campaign of terror has failed. It has not crushed dissent; it has unified and emboldened the very forces dedicated to overthrowing the theocracy. The final word will not belong to the executioners in the regime’s, but to the people of Iran and their organized Resistance fighting for a free and democratic republic.
