Resistance Units echo Iran’s true demand for regime change as regime stages Khamenei’s funeral

On July 4, in tandem with the state funeral ceremonies for the eliminated supreme leader Ali Khamenei, PMOI/MEK Resistance Units carried out a widespread wave of daring operations across Iran. These activities delivered a powerful message of defiance, cutting through the regime’s orchestrated mourning to echo the true desire of the Iranian people: an end to the religious dictatorship and the establishment of a democratic republic.

Showing utter fearlessness in the face of the regime’s highly militarized security crackdown, anti-regime youth targeted the very symbols and instruments of state suppression. Resistance Units set fire to the entrances and signposts of IRGC Basij bases—which are notoriously utilized for suppressing dissidents and protesters—in cities including Sari, Neyshabur, Torbat-e Heydariyeh, Torbat-e Jam, and Zahedan. They also targeted and set fire to regime buildings in Mahshahr and Esmaeelabad.

Furthermore, Resistance Units systematically torched massive propaganda billboards, banners, and murals featuring the eliminated Ali Khamenei in major cities such as Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Karaj, Zahedan, Chabahar, Ardabil, and Saveh, among others. In a direct challenge to the clerical establishment’s attempt to force a smooth transfer of power, activists in Nowshahr and Lahijan specifically set fire to large posters and propaganda featuring the newly installed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

The bold operations by the Resistance Units completely shattered the façade the regime desperately tried to construct. During Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies, which have lasted for several days, the regime transformed the ceremonies into a massive political-security maneuver aimed at artificially projecting structural unity and consolidating the position of Mojtaba Khamenei. The state deployed large numbers of IRGC, Basij, and intelligence forces to secure the event, orchestrating crowds to swear allegiance to the new leader and cry out for “revenge.”

Top regime officials used the heavily guarded platform to rally their demoralized ranks. President Masoud Pezeshkian insisted that Khamenei’s “path continues.” IRGC Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani stated, “When our leader becomes a martyr, it is clear what path we must take.”

Meanwhile, the head of the regime’s repressive State Security Forces, Ahmad-Reza Radan, admitted the severe vulnerability of the ruling establishment, stating, “We are going through the hardest days.” Other top officials, including Saeed Jalili, Defense Minister Hatami, and Pezeshkian’s First Vice President Aref, similarly emphasized continuing Khamenei’s agenda and seeking revenge, chanting state-sponsored anthems vowing loyalty to the dead leader.

While the ruling clerics and IRGC commanders try to project power to mask their extreme vulnerability, the reality on the ground tells a different story. By targeting the very pillars of state suppression, the Resistance Units have demonstrated that the Iranian people will not accept the continuation of the regime under a new dictator and are determined to fight for a free Iran.
