Shattering the illusion: Resistance units defy regime’s security maneuvers during Khamenei’s funeral

On July 6, as the Iranian regime held heavily militarized state funeral ceremonies for its eliminated supreme leader Ali Khamenei, the PMOI/MEK Resistance Units launched a daring nationwide campaign. While the regime desperately sought to project stability, defiant youth targeted the regime’s centers of repression and corruption. These bold actions echo the true desire of the Iranian people: the complete overthrow of the mullahs’ rule and the establishment of a democratic republic.

During the funeral ceremonies, which lasted several days, the regime transformed the ceremonies into a massive political and security maneuver. The primary objective was to artificially project state cohesion and consolidate the unearned position of Mojtaba Khamenei, the newly installed successor. To control the public space and prevent any uprisings, the regime saturated the streets with widespread deployments of the IRGC, Basij, and intelligence agencies.

Throughout the heavily guarded events, regime officials used the platform to demand “revenge” and pledge their allegiance to Mojtaba. Regime president Masoud Pezeshkian vowed that Khamenei’s “path will continue,” while Quds Force chief Esmail Qaani stated that the regime’s forces “know what path to take” following Khamenei’s death. Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani absurdly claimed that “the people” support Mojtaba Khamenei “with all their being.”

Despite the orchestrated show of force, signs of internal disarray and deep fear of the public were glaring. IRGC Tehran Commander Hassan-Zadeh was forced to announce on state television that the planned coffin procession route had to be canceled. Demonstrating the regime’s fear of the crowds and lack of control over the situation, Hassan-Zadeh announced that the coffins would instead be flown to Qom by helicopter.

In sheer defiance of the regime’s suffocating security footprint, the PMOI Resistance Units proved that heavily armed guards and intelligence agents cannot deter the Iranian uprising. On July 6, brave activists launched a coordinated campaign, setting fire to large propaganda banners, billboards, and posters of the eliminated Ali Khamenei across the country.

The Resistance Units also systematically torched posters promoting the new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini, and IRGC propaganda. These daring anti-regime operations successfully struck major cities and towns nationwide. The activities took place in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Zahedan, Shiraz, Ardabil, Shahrekord, Rezvanshahr, Najafabad, Birjand, Dehloran, Azna, and Aleshtar.

The stark contrast between the regime’s heavily guarded, staged funeral and the fearless, widespread actions of the Resistance Units highlights the undeniable reality on the ground in Iran. While regime insiders attempt to project unity and popular support for Mojtaba Khamenei’s succession, the burning banners of the dictators across Iran’s streets tell the real story. The Resistance Units are proving that neither hollow displays of military might nor intense security crackdowns can save this regime. The Iranian people are undeterred and determined to achieve regime change.
