In a bold display of defiance against the Iranian regime’s wave of executions and threats to kill dissidents, PMOI/MEK Resistance Units carried out fiery operations across the country on May 14. These daring acts targeted the regime’s centers and symbols of repression, effectively shattering the state’s intimidation tactics.
The Resistance Units executed 10 specific operations. In Tehran, they set fire to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Basij base, while in Azadshahr, they targeted a base belonging to the repressive security forces tasked with cracking down on dissidents and protests. Across several cities—including Chabahar, Ilam, Iranshahr, Lordegan, Saravan, and Tehran—Resistance Units torched propaganda posters featuring the eliminated supreme leader Ali Khamenei. Additionally, in Mashhad, a propaganda poster featuring various regime officials and leaders was set ablaze.

Sham trials and the execution of rebellious youth
These retaliatory operations come directly on the heels of the regime’s brazen boasting about its crimes. On May 12, the Vice Chairman of the parliament’s Judicial Commission publicly praised the Judiciary Chief for executing “rioters” and prisoners from recent uprisings. Besieged by relentless domestic and foreign crises, the ruling mullahs are using the gallows daily in a desperate bid to instill fear within a deeply restless society.
The focal point of this brutal campaign of state terror is the execution of courageous protesters. Early on May 13, the regime hanged 55-year-old rebel Mohammad Abbasi in Ghezel Hesar Prison. Abbasi was arrested during the January uprising in Malard and accused of participating in “riotous gatherings” and involvement in the death of State Security Force (SSF) Colonel Shahin Dehghan, a criminal figure active in suppressing the protests.

The legal proceedings were a sham. Following his arrest, Abbasi was subjected to brutal interrogations and torture in the solitary confinement cells of Evin Prison’s notorious Ward 209. Denied access to an independent lawyer, he was sentenced to death by the infamous “hanging judge” Abolqasem Salavati in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. Branch 39 of the Supreme Court swiftly upheld the sentence, ignoring his family’s appeal. In a staggering display of collective punishment, Abbasi’s daughter, Fatemeh, who was arrested alongside him, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and remains incarcerated in Evin Prison.
Abbasi was one of at least a dozen arrested protesters executed in the past weeks.
Systematic repression and fabricated charges
In tandem with execution of protesters, the regime is carrying out a systemic crackdown against ethnic minorities. On May 12, the regime executed Baluch political prisoner Abduljalil Shahbakhsh in Zahedan Prison. Accused of “rebellion through armed attack” on SSF centers and membership in the Ansar al-Furqan group, the regime claimed he was seeking revenge for the Bloody Friday massacre of September 30, 2022, where suppressive forces murdered over 115 Baluch compatriots in Zahedan. The extrajudicial killing of minorities also continues in the streets; on May 11, Ministry of Intelligence agents opened fire on a vehicle on the Pahreh-Sarbaz road, killing four Baluch citizens.

These killings are embedded in a massive surge of executions, with at least 20 recorded between May 3 and May 13 across Birjand, Tabriz, Ardabil, Qazvin, Kermanshah, and Isfahan. To justify this spree, the judiciary routinely fabricates charges. On May 13, 33-year-old Ehsan Afreshteh was executed under bogus allegations of “espionage” for Israel, while 29-year-old Erfan Shakourzadeh was executed on May 11 for allegedly cooperating with US and Israeli intelligence.
Ultimately, these executions are a profound sign of the regime’s weakness, not its power. A restive Iranian society, emboldened by the daring operations of the Resistance Units, has proven it will not back down.
