As Iran braces for a summer plagued by severe power shortages and official admissions of systemic failure, PMOI Resistance Units in the capital have taken direct action, publicly accusing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Basij paramilitary forces of being the culprits behind the nation’s energy crisis. This bold move channels the growing public anger over the regime’s gross mismanagement and widespread corruption.
On the evening of Tuesday, May 13, 2025, PMOI Resistance Units were active in the Nazi Abad district of Tehran, displaying powerful slogans that cut to the heart of the people’s frustration. The slogans read: “If IRGC’s electricity is cut, the power shortage will be solved,” and “Thieves of the nation’s electricity: IRGC, Basij, Velayat [Supreme Leader].”
These messages directly challenge the regime’s narrative and place the blame for the rolling blackouts and energy deficiencies squarely on its most powerful and corrupt institutions. By identifying the IRGC and Basij, the Resistance Units highlight how national resources are allegedly diverted to fund the regime’s repressive apparatus and foreign adventurism, rather than serving the Iranian people.
The Resistance Units’ action comes as the Iranian regime itself admits its inability to cope with the energy crisis. Officials are warning citizens to prepare for a “difficult summer.” Mehdi Masaeli, the Secretary of the Electricity Industry Syndicate, bluntly advised the public: “We must accept that we will have a difficult summer; I recommend people procure fans and traditional water pitchers for these conditions.” He further warned, “This year, the blackout time may be longer than 2 hours,” and noted the cascading effect: “when there is no electricity, we also don’t have water because the pumps stop… social unrest may increase.”
In a stark admission of failure, the regime’s Interior Ministry issued a directive on May 8, 2025, announcing the closure of all government offices, banks, and executive bodies on Thursdays until September 22, 2025. The stated reason was the “electricity imbalance and the regime’s inability to solve the energy crisis.” This move underscores the depth of the mismanagement that prioritizes regime survival over public welfare.
However, while the regime continues to blame the public for power shortages and reduces electricity allocation to public services, the IRGC continues to use Iran’s resources for its destructive goals, including the mining cryptocurrency and developing weapons of mass destruction.
The activities of the Resistance Units, like the one in Nazi Abad, are changing the conditions from stagnation and doubt to movement and action. While regime-controlled media outlets often avoid the root causes of popular discontent, these units take concrete measures to support the people’s uprising and prevent the regime from stifling the voice of the Resistance.
