Iran coronavirus update: Over 499,800 deaths, estimates signal new patients in five-figures

Over 499,800 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, January 24. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 132,251, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 116,735 in Tehran, 40,235 in Razavi Khorasan, 18,858 in West Azerbaijan, 16,515 in Lorestan, 13,492 in Kerman, 9354 in Kermanshah, 9258 in Hamedan, 5574 in Bushehr, and 3885 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Monday as 21 deaths and 7691 new cases. Furthermore, 1222 patients are in ICUs and 577 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

The novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has taken the lives of over 499,800 people throughout Iran, according to the Iranian opposition PMOI/MEK

“If we reimpose all the restrictions today, and if people fully abide by these regulations, the number of our patients will still reach five figures. More than 50 percent of the coronavirus cases are of omicron,” said the secretary of Iran’s Epidemiologist Committee on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Considering the increasing number of positive omicron cases per day across the country, it appears that we are reaching the omicron peak,” said the secretary of the National Covid-19 Task Force’s Scientific Committee on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The daily number of people seeking initial medical care for coronavirus has risen by 50 percent, most of which have contracted omicron,” said a specialist physician in Tehran’s Labbafi-Nezhad Hospital on Monday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Omicron has become the main variant in [Isfahan] province. During the past week the number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases has reached more than 1,500 cases,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

“We are hearing the footsteps of the sixth wave.”

The cities of Bastak and Parsian are now registered as yellow zones. The increasing number of hospitalized cases is sounding the sixth wave’s alarm bell,” said the spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the state-run Moj news agency.

“Expect omicron to flare up in the not-so-distant future. The number of positive coronavirus cases has increased from 30 to 50 percent. Therefore, the alarm bell has sounded,” said the dean of Kerman Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

The number of new cases is rising and in the past 24 hours, 126 patients have been hospitalized, according to a statement released Monday by the Mashhad Medical Sciences University regarding Razavi Khorasan province. The three cities of Torbat-e Heydarieh, Gonabad, and Khalil-abad are registered as yellow zones, the statement adds.

In Markazi (Central) province the increasing number of new cases signals a new wave of patients. The cities of Arak and Tafresh are no longer considered blue zones and they have twice the number of new cases in comparison to the previous days, according to a Monday report wired by the Mehr news agency.

“In the coming days, the number of people being hospitalized and the daily death toll due to omicron will climb. Although the producers of domestic vaccines constantly emphasized on the effectiveness of their product, there is a long way to gain the public’s trust to domestic vaccines,” reads a piece published on Monday by the state-run Setareyeh-Sobh daily.
