“Currently we can say that omicron is spreading across the country and expanding in different provinces. In the coming few weeks we may be facing a new peak with omicron,” said the secretary of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The trend of new cases is increasing, and this can be the result of omicron. In the past few days omicron has been reported in a large number of cities and provinces, and this trend, considering the rising number of suspicious cases, will continue,” according to a report wired by the according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“As we speak each patient that tests positive for coronavirus is considered mostly to be omicron,” said Nader Tavakoli, deputy director of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the state-run E’temad daily.

“The number of people seeking initial medical care has increased by 22 percent in the past week. In the cities of Khaf, Dargaz, Mashhad, Torghabeh, Shandiz, Bardaskan, Taybad, and Bakhezr have all witnessed an increasing number of such people in their medical centers,” said the director of the Mashhad Medical Sciences University’s Health Network in Razavi Khorasan province on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“In line with the wave of omicron cases that is growing exponentially, Health Ministry officials are only focusing on ‘evaluating and making announcements.’ With such turtle-style speed in decision making in the face of a variant that even bypasses PCR tests and other observatory measures, what will become of the number of new cases, those hospitalized, and deaths resulting from omicron in Iran?” reads a piece published on Wednesday in the state-run E’temad daily.
