Iran coronavirus update: Over 491,100 deaths, omicron to lead to sixth wave and high stats

Over 491,100 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, December 22. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 131,211, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 114,950 in Tehran, 39,705 in Razavi Khorasan, 33,840 in Isfahan, 29,710 in Khuzestan, 18,495 in Fars, 17,860 in Mazandaran, 16,933 in East Azerbaijan, 13,197 in Kerman, 8103 in Yazd, 8092 in Kurdistan, and 6320 in Ardabil. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Tuesday as 44 deaths and 2103 new cases. Furthermore, 2821 patients are in ICUs and 344 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“The threat of the next wave is serious. Right now, omicron is spreading across the country. One can expect that in the next one or two weeks we will be witnessing the impact of an increasing number of new cases on the country’s stats. In three to four weeks, we will clearly see the sixth wave leading to a significant number of Covid infections,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the state-run Salamat News outlet.

“To this day seven coronavirus patients with omicron in Tehran and one case in Mashhad have been identified. 1800 suspicious cases of omicron have been sent to us from across the country,” said Deputy Health Minister Kamal Heydari on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Omicron will probably show its ramifications next week. We have informed all hospitals to expand their branches dealing with patients seeking medical care for initial Covid-19 symptoms,” said Nader Tavakoli, deputy chair of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“The coronavirus stats in [Ilam] province has been increasing during the past few days, especially during the past ten days the number of cases involving minors under the age of 12 has increased,” said the deputy dean of Ilam Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency.

In West Azerbaijan province, during the past 24 hours 102 individuals have contracted coronavirus and there are currently 434 patients hospitalized, of which 136 are in ICUs and 22 are under ventilators, according to a Wednesday report wired by the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

“With 93 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours, we currently have 617 patients hospitalized, of which 197 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Shiraz Medical Sciences University regarding Fars province.

“Omicron has taken its second victim but there is no change made in Iran regarding the country’s daily matters. A passenger from the United Arab Emirates, who had contracted the virus, entered the country without any restrictions or surveillance from the naval, aerial, or ground borders, traveled all the way to the capital without any commuting limitations, and the patient’s test was confirmed in the Pasteur Institute,” according to a Wednesday piece published by the state-run E’temad daily.
