“From late February 2020 the Beheshte Zahra Organization has been engaged with an unimaginable crisis unprecedented in the past 50 years… as of last night 41,591 burials of coronavirus victims have been carried out in Beheshte Zahra Cemetery,” said the director of Iran’s largest cemetery on Wednesday, according to the state-run Eqtesad News outlet.

“The number of coronavirus patients entering our hospitals remains extremely high. We are still facing a shortage in ICU beds and unfortunately many patients in dire conditions are still waiting in various branches because ICUs are always in use. The patients’ conditions deteriorate and are in need of various equipment and devices. If these vaccines were provided to the people back in February, it would have prevented this high number of deaths,” said the head of Tehran’s Sina Hospital on Wednesday, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“Currently we are in warlike conditions. It just lacks the smell of gunpowder, and we don’t see the color of blood. The numbers of new cases, those being hospitalized, and deaths in southwest parts of Khuzestan province are on the rise and hospitals have reached their capacity,” said the deputy dean of Abadan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The numbers of people seeking initial medical care in Khuzestan’s hospitals for coronavirus symptoms and those currently hospitalized are very high. For example, in Ahvaz’s Golestan Hospitals even ICU beds in the heart branch of this medical center have been allocated to coronavirus patients and there is no more capacity,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Khuzestan Covid-19 Task Force.

“From the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic to this day we have lost 14,000 patients to Covid-19 in Isfahan province,” said the deputy dean of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of daily coronavirus deaths in [West Azerbaijan] reached the 41 mark in the past 24 hours. This is the highest such figure since last fall. There are 2213 patients hospitalized due to coronavirus,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

Head of the Kermanshah Health Center said a number of vaccination centers in the city of Kermanshah closed down due to a shortage in vaccine doses. “Three vaccination centers were closed until further notice today,” this official said on Wednesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The issue far more important than the delta variant is the lambda variant that exists behind our borders, and there are suspicious cases inside Iran. I believe the delta peak will link to the lambda peak,” said a member of the Scientific Committee in Kerman Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
