Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, June 20, 2020—Head of the COVID-19 Task Force in Bushehr of southern Iran acknowledged the number of novel coronavirus cases has surpassed the 4,000 mark in this province. “The number of COVID-19 deaths is swiftly increasing in comparison to previous periods,” he said.

Bushehr is escalating from “red status” to “black,” according to a report wired by the Fars news agency, an outlet affiliated directly to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

Statistics show that each day of the past week witnessed an average 227 new coronavirus cases in this province, meaning Bushehr is escalating from red status are to blackness, the report further explains. The government’s insistence to normalize the country’s status quo in remarks made by officials and their media, parallel to lifting quarantine measures and failing to carry out necessary supervision have rendered a situation where the society has been deeply affected, the Fars report adds. These are merely a number of the reasons behind the COVID-19 spread in Bushehr province.

Over 53,600 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 334 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, June 19. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 9,392, nearly a sixth of the actual figure.

The death toll in various provinces include: 10,920 in Tehran, 4,395 in Khuzestan, 3,050 in Isfahan, 1,925 in Lorestan, 1,825 in East Azerbaijan, 1,510 in West Azerbaijan, 1,435 in Kermanshah, and 1,130 in Fars. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“Most likely for the next 15 days the daily increase in new coronavirus patients will continue… Recently 15 percent of the country’s patients are of Sistan & Baluchistan province… In the past week, this illness has reached a critical stage and we have had 11 deaths in the past 24 hours,” said the dean of Zahedan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the state-run ISNA news agency and Aftab daily.

In East Azerbaijan province of northwest Iran, eyewitnesses and local sources are reporting a rise in deaths in the city of Tabriz. More than 100 people died on Wednesday, June 17 alone, these reports indicate. “The province of East Azerbaijan has in the past few weeks remained a code red area… The cities of Ahar, Bonab, Mianeh, Haris, Hurand, Shabestar, Hashtroud, and Tabriz have the highest number of cases per capita,” said the deputy dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Razavi news agency.

“In the past few days, 20 members of a family underwent COVID-19 testing, of which 18 results were positive,” according to a piece published on Thursday in the state-run Asr-e Iran daily.

According to reports from doctors in Razavi Khorasan province, in the past 10 days, more than 3,000 new cases have been identified in Mashhad, and at least 180 people have died of coronavirus. Eyewitnesses report that more than 100 people referred to just one of Mashhad’s treatment centers in one day, 50 of them tested positive for COVID-19, and 40 others are suspicious of having contracted the virus. In Quchan, 19 people died of coronavirus in the previous day.

IRNA reported that in Khuzestan province, the spokesperson of the Coronavirus Task Force said, “Khuzestan has been in code-red status since a month ago, and in the previous days, the number of coronavirus cases has increased dramatically.”

ISNA quoted the caretaker of Jondishapur Medical Sciences University in Ahvaz as saying, “We’re lacking facilities in the special care section and the capacity of the ICU sections is filled.”

Javan Daily quoted the secretary of the Coronavirus Task Force in Bushehr as saying, “In the past nine days, the number of coronavirus cases in Bushehr province has seen a 90-percent increase. The number of deaths has increased by 66 percent and the number of hospitalized patients has increased by 170 percent.”

According to a report by Hamshahri Daily, the number of coronavirus patients in Ganaveh is increasing every day, and this has also entailed an increase in the number of deaths and hospitalized patients. The governor of Ganaveh said, “All roads leading to Ganaveh beach will be blocked. Also, all recreational facilities will be shut down until July 5.”

An MP from Saqqez and Baneh, Kurdistan province, said, “The indifference of authorities in Kurdistan in late May, as well as the lack of oversight on the situation in the province, has caused the coronavirus outbreak to reach a critical scale in Kurdistan. Regretfully, these days, this story is repeating itself and there’s no news of any practical steps being taken. Authorities in Kurdistan province are still kicking the ball of their own inefficiency into the people’s court. The public's concerns about the future days of this province have reached a peak.” (Source: Mehr News Agency, June 18)
