Iran, December 16, 2020—Over 186,200 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 470 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, December 16. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 52,883, around a third of the actual figure.
The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 45,771 in Tehran, 10,920 in Isfahan, 9625 in Khuzestan, 7325 in Qom, 7292 in East Azarbaijan, 7018 in West Azarbaijan, 7012 in Mazandaran, 6606 in Gilan, 5592 in Fars, 4925 in Alborz, 4505 in Hamedan, 3828 in Markazi (Central), 3292 in Yazd, 3216 in Kurdistan, 1922 in Qazvin, and 1319 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“This virus has become stronger and more infective. We will experience exceedingly difficult circumstances if the fire of this illness engulfs us once again,” said the regime’s Health Minister Saied Namaki on Wednesday, according to the state-controlled Iran Online website.
“We expect the Health Ministry to evaluate why in the past few months we have had so many deaths among our medical professionals,” said the head of the regime’s Supreme Nursing Council on Wednesday. “To this day there have not been any serious measures in this regard. During the third wave the number of deaths increased among the medical professionals and the nursing society,” this official added, according to the state-controlled Hamshahri daily.
“The tests existing in Iran are examining antibodies that may be impacted from other coronaviruses, meaning if the individual has contracted other coronaviruses, the test shows him/her having antibodies that actually is effective against other forms of coronaviruses. As a result, the existing tests in Iran cannot be trusted,” said a member of the Beheshti Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.
“As a public and health demand from the President, Majlis (parliament), Central Bank, the Foreign Minister and … I am asking for the quickest possible distribution of vaccines among various branches of our society,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “This does not mean cancelling access to domestic vaccines. However, since this needs time, we can save people’s lives and help break the chain of the spread faster. Many countries have purchased their necessary amounts. Therefore, we need to provide the vaccine through adequate and ample imports,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
“It has been a few days that the trend has stabilized, and we have been witnessing a decrease in the stats. We are in fragile circumstances and if we do not control the status quo we may actually experience an even worse period,” said the deputy chair of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “In Tehran province alone, we have around 400 to 450 people being hospitalized each day,” the official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“272 coronavirus patients are in ICUs since they are in dire conditions. To this day 2869 patients in Fars province have died of Covid-19,” said deputy dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the IRGC-linked Javan daily.
“The second wave in Qom lasted four months. The province is currently in unstable conditions. An urgency into lifting quarantine sanctions led to a new spread of this virus across Qom,” said the deputy dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.
“People continue to die of Covid-19 in Zanjan. The death count in this province stands at 1041 and 199 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours,” according to a Wednesday report on the Zanjan Medical Sciences University website cited by the IRNA news agency.
