Executions of PMOI members only fuel the resolve of Iran’s Resistance Units

The Iranian regime’s desperate attempt to terrorize the youth and crush the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) through a brutal wave of executions has backfired. Instead of instilling fear, the state-sanctioned murders have ignited a fierce response from PMOI Resistance Units across the country, proving that the ruling clerics’ strategy of intimidation has failed and only deepened the resolve of the youth to overthrow the dictatorship.

In the span of just a few days, between March 30 and April 4, 2026, the regime hanged six PMOI political prisoners: Mohammad Taghavi, Akbar Daneshvarkar, Babak Alipour, Pouya Ghobadi, Vahid Bani Amerian, and Abolhassan Montazer. Driven by profound weakness, the authorities hoped these heinous acts would physically eliminate their organized opposition and terrorize a restless society. On the contrary, PMOI Resistance Units immediately commemorated their martyred comrades and publicly vowed to continue the fight against the regime.

Widespread commemorations and messages of unyielding resolve

On April 6, PMOI Resistance Units organized widespread activities across major cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, Hamedan, Kashan, and Ilam, to honor the fallen heroes. The message was clear: every martyr makes the Resistance Units more determined in their righteous cause.

In Tehran, members installed banners and set up tables with candles and photos of the executed prisoners. One banner bore the message, “Salute to PMOI heroes who stood true to their pledge to the people and God,” while another read, “We will continue the path of PMOI martyrs until we overthrow the regime and liberate Iran.” In Mashhad, units laid flower wreaths with the vow, “We swear on the blood of our martyrs that we will fight.” Similar acts of defiance were recorded in Kashan and Shiraz, where activists held placards honoring the martyrs as “great men who did not surrender to torture and pressure and stood true to their pledge till the end.”

Armed readiness to overthrow the dictatorship

Beyond commemorations, armed Resistance Units brazenly defied the regime’s intimidation tactics, demonstrating their readiness to confront the state’s violence. In Kermanshah, armed PMOI units holding the emblem of the National Liberation Army (NLA) sent a defiant message to the clerical rulers: “As a unit of the NLA, we are ready to overthrow the criminal regime. We salute the executed PMOI members, who stood fast and kissed the noose. The PMOI cannot be eliminated. NLA units are expanding every day to overthrow the mullahs’ regime.”

In cities like Khash and Sarbaz, armed Resistance Unit members posed with rifles and placards pledging to continue the path of the slain PMOI members.

A desperate campaign of state murder rooted in vulnerability

The six PMOI martyrs who sparked this nationwide defiance were highly educated professionals and dedicated freedom fighters who endured months of brutal physical and psychological torture in Evin Prison’s notorious Ward 209. Their death sentences were handed down by the notorious criminal Judge Iman Afshari in sham trials that lasted only minutes. Before sending them to the gallows, anti-riot guards violently raided Ward 4 of Ghezel Hesar prison on the night of March 29, severely beating the prisoners and severing all phone lines.

The timing of these executions exposes a paralyzed regime acting out of profound vulnerability. Rocked by massive nationwide uprisings in December 2025 and January 2026, the mullahs barely maintained their grip on power through the massacre of thousands of protesters. Now, exploiting the “fog of war” and domestic chaos following the February 28 airstrike that killed supreme leader Ali Khamenei, the regime is attempting to quietly eliminate its most capable adversaries. Driven by the paralyzing fear of yet another popular uprising, the clerical establishment relies entirely on the gallows to maintain its illegitimate rule.

The failure of intimidation

Despite the regime’s coordinated effort to empty its prisons of PMOI affiliates under the cover of regional tensions, and despite continuing its systemic repression seamlessly under the presidency of Masoud Pezeshkian, the mullahs have severely miscalculated. By rushing these executions, the regime has not quelled the uprisings but instead fueled the fire of resistance.

The brave and immediate response of the Resistance Units across Iran shows that the state’s killing machine cannot break the will of the Iranian people. The strategy of terror has failed, and as these nationwide activities demonstrate, the Iranian youth are more determined than ever to dismantle the illegitimate regime once and for all. Every martyr will only forge a more defiant generation ready to achieve ultimate liberation.
