Resistance Units: No to the mullahs, yes to democracy in Iran

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, June 4, 2020—While the Iranian regime’s Interior Minister tried to downsize the number of protesters killed during the November nationwide protests, the Iranian people continued this week to celebrate the anniversary of the death of regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini.

The people of Iran do not want the mullahs’ rule, and for 41 years, the mullahs maintained their regime with brutal repression. Mass murder of regime opponents and Khomeini’s fatwa to massacre 30,000 political prisoners in the summer of 1988 is a clear indication of this.

In the last two years, we witnessed two nationwide uprisings in December 2017-January 2018 and November 2019, which showed the powder-keg situation of the Iranian society that has extremely weakened the regime in dealing with its domestic and international crises.

After 41 years, the result of mullahs’ regime was nothing but brutal repressions, torture and execution of tens of thousands of political prisoners, social oppression against women and youths by the so-called morality police, poverty, unemployment, collapsed economy and plundering of the Iranian people’s wealth and money for terrorism and proxy wars in the region.

The decisive response of the Iranian people

The Iranian people’s desire to overthrow the regime was echoed in their slogans during the November 2019

The Iranian people’s desire to overthrow the regime was echoed in their slogans during the November 2019 protests such as “We will fight, we will die, but we’ll take back Iran” and “No to the oppressor, be it the shah, or the supreme leader”, “No crown, no turban, Khamenei your time is up.”

The determination of the Iranian people to overthrow the regime was once again showed during protests after Iranian officials admitted having downed a civilian airliner with 176 passengers that was flying from Tehran to Kiev, Ukraine, in January. In their demonstrations, the students and youths chanted “1,500 of our people were killed in November,” “So many years of crime, death to the velayat [the rule of the mullahs],” “Khamenei have some shame, let go of the state!”

In all these protests, a source of momentum were the Iranian Resistance Units, the network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside Iran. Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi based his strategy on “resistance units” inside Iran, with the objective of establishing units inside the society and forming a bond between the files of this revolution with the ranks seen in the central core of this movement, being the MEK.

The state-run website Erja News acknowledged on May 17 the growing support for the MEK, among university students and the country’s intellectuals, and admitted the opposition movement played a key role in the nationwide uprisings in the last two years.

Erja News quoted Gholamreza Esmaili, the spokesman of the judiciary, as saying on May 5: “Two detained elite students of the Sharif University of Technology have been accused of having links with the MEK, attempts to carry out operations against the system’s centers, and possession of explosives. A year ago, the esteemed minister of intelligence revealed the arrest of 116 operational teams of the MEK in 2018 alone (Alavi, April 19, 2019).

“Now, it has been two years that we have witnessed the MEK awakening thousands of their sleeper cells one cluster after another, describing them as Resistance Units and delegating missions for operations and destruction through a concentrated [central] command,” Erja News report continued.

In their daily activities, the brave members of the Resistance Units revolt against the ruling theocracy to spread the flames of resistance and hope everywhere. The Resistance Units offer a breakthrough and are a beacon for uprising and freedom, and for the rebellious and defiant generation. Despite massive repression and arrests, the Resistance Units continue to expand rapidly, carrying out hundreds of activities and operations against repressive institutes, and spearheading the uprisings.

Monday through Wednesday, the Resistance Units carried out activities in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, Lahijan, Hamadan, Sabzevar, Abadan, Karaj, Khavaf, Behbahan, Shushtar, Andimeshk, Qazvin, Rasht, Hashtpar, Rudbar, Varamin, Kermanshah, Javanrud, Ardabil, Qom, Lorestan, Zahedan, Iranshahr, Bandar Abbas, Shush, Shahriar, Sanandaj, Mahshahr, Babolsar, Yazd, Urmia, Noshahr, Mazandaran, Sirjan, Nishapur, Bandar Anzali, Semnan, Javanrud, Ahwaz, and Astara.

They celebrated the anniversary of regime’s founder Ruhollah Khomeini death by installing handwritten banners and slogans on the walls that read: “Our struggle against Khomeini was to establish freedom and social justice,” “Down with Khamenei, damn Khomeini, viva Rajavi,” “Down with the principle of the supreme leader’s rule,” “There is a single solution for poverty, and the end of tyranny. That solution is establishing democracy in Iran,” and “Khomeini was a ruthless dictator.”

More public outrage against mullahs’ looting and repression

In the last three days, the defiant and brave youths in Isfahan and Mashhad torched three regime centers for looting and theft of public wealth and the spread fundamentalism. These institutions are used by the mullahs as instruments to suppress the Iranian people and cause a lot of public hatred.

Also, on the occasion of the anniversary of Khomeini’s death, the rebellious youths burned images and posters of Khomeini, regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Qassem Soleimani. Soliemani was the commander of the IRGC Quds Force and head of the mullahs’ extraterritorial terrorist attacks, and was killed in Iraq on January 3 by a U.S. drone airstrike. Soleimani specifically supervised attacks against the PMOI/MEK during the years of their stay in Iraq.

The MEK and its Resistance Units, as on organized movement, marks the greatest and longest lasting relentless resistance in the history of Iran and offers a democratic alternative to the tyranny of the mullahs.

As the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi has said, “The only force which could end the Iranian regime’s terrorism and belligerence is the uprising of the people of Iran with their organized resistance.”
