As MEK Resistance Units expand activities inside Iran, regime fears explosive society

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, February 1, 2021—In recent days, the supporters and sympathizers of the Iranian opposition organized anti-regime activities across the country. On January 28, the internal network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), known as the Resistance Units, pursued its activities in cities such as Tehran, Mashhad, and Nishabur.

Huge posters of the Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi were installed in Tehran and various places of Nishabur with slogans that read “The Resistance Units are sparks of uprisings” and “The uprising is fire under the ashes.”

In various places of Mashhad, the Resistance Units, distributed images, leaflets, and booklets of Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). They also took to graffiti writing slogans on the walls that read, “Iran will rise up in revolt,” “Hail to those who revolt for freedom,” “Nothing in the world is stronger than our determination and will to achieve freedom,” “The mullahs must get lost,” and “The army of the poor and unemployed will not rest or surrender.”

These activities once again show the bravery of the MEK supporters inside Iran since the regime punishes any ties to the MEK with heavy sentences. The regime has executed more than a 100,000 MEK members and supporters during its 42-year rule. Despite an atmosphere of fear and repression, the MEK’s internal network has grown extensively in the last two years. It played a major role in organizing and leading nationwide uprisings across the country.

The Resistance Units also are a source of motivation for the young and rebellious generation of Iran that showed heroism during the November 2019 nationwide protests ,in which 1,500 protesters were killed by the security forces.

Various regime officials have repeatedly warned for MEK growing influence and the explosive state of the society.

Recently, Eshagh Jahangiri, the regime’s Vice-president acknowledged to regime’s desperation during major protests in the country. “During November 2019, very unfortunate events happened in the country, especially in the Port of Mahshahr,” Jahangiri acknowledged referring to the massacre of Mahshahr citizens by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

In this regard, the state-run daily Vatan Emrouz wrote on Sunday, January 31, “The most important point that should not be overlooked, is the growth of anger among the people in deprived and farfetched areas. Anger manifests itself mainly after confronting any government official. Public outrage over government officials is the result of established inefficiencies and indefensible economic conditions that weigh heavily on the deprived classes.”
