Resistance Units mark the second anniversary of November 2019 protests

On the second anniversary of the November 2019 protests, Resistance Units across Iran continued to commemorate the nationwide uprising and pledge to continue the path of more than 1,500 martyrs who laid down their lives for freedom in Iran.

Resistance Units are a network of activists who support the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Thorough their activities, the Resistance Units play an important role in countering the environment of suppression caused by the regime’s security forces.

Throughout the week, Iranian Resistance Units in different cities posted messages of Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and Massoud Rajavi, the leader of the Iranian Resistance, honoring the memory of murdered protesters and pledging to continue the struggle for regime change and freedom.

“We will keep the fire of uprising alive,” one poster in Tehran read. “In memory of 1,500 protesters killed in November 2019,” a banner hanging from a bridge in Tehran read.

Another banner in Tehran quoted Maryam Rajavi saying, “No to forced Hijab, no to forced religion, no to tyranny.”

A group of Resistance Units in Tehran held filmed themselves holding a long banner with the photos of protesters killed during the November 2019 uprising. The banner quoted Massoud Rajavi, saying, “The flames of the uprisings will not die.”

Two Resistance Units recorded a video of themselves with photos of murdered protesters and said, “Hail to thousands of Iranian rebellious youths who were arrested and are enduring savage tortures to open the path of freedom. We the Resistance Units will follow their path to achieve victory. Down with Khamenei.”

Similar activities were recorded in Karaj, Mashhad, Tabriz, Isfahan, Neyshabur, Ardabil, Rasht, Arak, Behbehan, Kerman, Kashan, Sarab, Kermanshah, Semnan, Yazd, and Borujerd.

In Mashhad, Resistance Units held banners that described the November 2019 as a national event to be commemorated every year.

Another Resistance Unit member held a banner that read, “From the 1988 massacre to the November 2019 uprising, we seek justice,” a message that has been echoed across Iran and is calling to hold regime leaders to account for the countless crimes they’ve committed against the people of Iran.

Protests sparked across Iran on November 15, 2019, after the Iranian regime imposed a sudden hike in the price of fuel. Under extreme pressure due to economic problems and decades of repression and corruption by the ruling mullahs, Iranians in different parts of the country took to streets to voice their protests. The demonstrations quickly turned into a nationwide uprising that called for the overthrow of the regime in its entirety. On the verge of collapse, the regime only managed to hold on to power by resorting to force and opening fire on unarmed protesters. At least 1,500 protesters were gunned down in the few days that the protests continued. Thousands of others were injured and arrested. Many others died under torture in the regime’s prisons. But despite the regime’s brutal repression of the protests, demonstrations continue across Iran, and the feeling of resent continues to linger across Iran. Regime officials are warning that another similar or perhaps more intense protest is looming.
