Protests over rising prices of food staples spread to more areas of Iran

Protests over skyrocketing prices of food staples and against the ruling regime’s destructive policies continued for the third consecutive night on Friday in numerous cities of Iran, including Khorramabad, Ardabil, Borujerd, Dehdasht, Dorud, Shahin Shahr, Iranshahr, Junqan, Farsan, and Cholicheh. In many cities demonstrators were seen chanting “Death to Khamenei!” in reference to regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and “Death to Raisi!” in reference to regime President Ebrahim Raisi.

In Shahin Shahr angry youths set fire to a site affiliated to the mullahs’ regime adjacent to state police. In Borujerd of Khorramabad province people were seen chanting “Mullahs must get lost!” in different streets. Protesters were standing up to the regime’s oppressive forces and refusing to back down.

In Ardabil, the regime’s security forces attacked the protesters who responded by defending themselves using various tactics and continued with their demonstrations. Activists in the cities of Borujerd, Dorud, and Farsan reported the regime’s state security forces and anti-riot units began opening fire to quell the protests as their crackdown measures intensified.

Protests on Friday night continued despite the fact that the regime’s authorities and security forces had implemented unofficial martial law in various cities. Security forces have also been on high alert in different cities, including Mashhad, where local officials dispatched a higher number of forces into the streets. Reports indicate security forces raiding peoples’ homes in the town of Jooneqhs of Kuy Alavi and the Zargan district.

The regime’s official news agency, IRNA,  acknowledged protests in serval cities, including Tehran, Dezful, Andimeshk, Dorud, Izeh, Yasuj, Junqan, and Fashafuyeh.

Footage posted on social media platforms and various websites show the regime’s security forces attacking protesters with batons and tear gas, along with firing bird shots. The exact number of casualties and arrested remains unknown and state media have so far reported at least 22 arrests.

Experts are reporting that regime authorities have disrupted internet connections in numerous areas of Iran, including all of Khuzestan province.

Regime President Ebrahim Raisi had promised to resolve the country’s economic issues, emphasizing during his election campaign that the main problem is in management. “I will be able to use many economy experts to resolve the country’s economic problems, and I will do so” he claimed before assuming office.

During his tenure, however, Raisi has failed to resolve any of the surmounting economic crises plaguing Iran. All the while, various prices of different daily necessities are increasing, resulting in more and more protesters venting their anger and frustration in the streets by holding anti-regime demonstrations.
