Prisoners across Iran marked the 54th week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign on February 4, 2025. The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign is a coordinated protest movement initiated by political prisoners across Iran to oppose the regime’s extensive use of the death penalty. Since its launch in January 2024, the campaign has involved weekly hunger strikes and statements condemning executions, aiming to raise awareness and mobilize both national and international support against capital punishment in Iran. With the addition of Gonbad-e Kavus prison this week, the campaign has now expanded to 35 prisons across the country.
Additionally, a number of political prisoners in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, some of whom had previously joined the campaign, declared their solidarity with this collective action against executions last week and officially joined the “No to Executions Tuesdays” movement.

The statement by the campaign states, “Since the beginning of February, more than 30 prisoners have been executed, including a female inmate in Khorramabad Prison. Furthermore, in another inhumane act, Manouchehr Fallah, a political prisoner and a member of the ‘No to Executions Tuesdays’ campaign, who is currently held in Lakan Prison in Rasht, has been sentenced to death by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht on charges of moharebeh (waging war against God) in a highly unfair and opaque trial that took place without the presence of a lawyer.
“It is clear that the government’s objective in issuing these arbitrary and systematic sentences and charges is to instill fear in society and prevent street protests and uprisings. Let us not forget that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has previously stated that judges should pay no attention to international human rights principles when issuing verdicts.”
The prisoners also pointed out that on the other hand, the solidarity and unity of the people in opposing the inhumane death sentences in recent weeks have been remarkable.
“The domestic and international campaign against the execution of political prisoners has gained significant momentum, reflecting a broader protest against an authoritarian regime that cannot survive without executions,” they wrote.
The “No to Executions” campaign across Iran and the prisoners’ Tuesday hunger strike movement is gradually turning into a nationwide collective action, expanding each week.
“May this campaign serve as even a small contribution to the freedom-seeking struggles of the people and the brave and fearless youth in their fight to liberate our captive homeland and eliminate corruption and discrimination,” the prisoners wrote in their statement.
The members of the campaign expressed their gratitude for all the supportive actions marking the anniversary of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” movement, whether in social and media spaces or through protests and gatherings both inside and outside Iran. They expressed hope that these acts of solidarity, which defend the right to life and fundamental human rights, will continue to grow.
