PMOI veteran Mahmoud Morshed passes away after 47 years of struggle against Iran’s regime

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of PMOI member Mahmoud Morshed in Albania after suffering a stroke. Mahmoud marked his life with 47 years of struggle against the clerical regime in the ranks of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the National Liberation Army of Iran (NLA).

Mahmoud Morshed was born in 1959 in Karaj. In 1978, while living in Gorgan, he actively participated in the uprisings and anti-monarchical revolution against the Shah’s dictatorship. During this period, he became acquainted with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

In 1979, while studying geology and mining in India, he joined the Association of Muslim Students Supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran in Hyderabad, India. He subsequently continued his political and resistance activities with the PMOI in the cities of Bangalore and New Delhi.

In 1985, Mahmoud Morshed relocated to the Iran-Iraq border region and joined the PMOI’s combat units. In 1987, with the establishment of the National Liberation Army of Iran (NLA), he joined the ranks of the NLA.

Mahmoud took part in a series of operations conducted by the National Liberation Army, including the Operation Aftab, Operation Chelcheragh, and Operation Eternal Light (Forough Javidan).

During Operation Eternal Light, Mahmoud Morshed was struck by a barrage of bullets in his right leg and sustained severe injuries.

Following the 2003 Iraq war, during the PMOI’s 14 years of resistance against the inhumane siege of Camps Ashraf and Liberty in Iraq, Mahmoud Morshed fought courageously. He stood firm during the brutal attacks on Camp Ashraf on July 28 and 29, 2009, and April 8, 2011, carried out by the terrorist Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), under the command of Qassem Soleimani, as well as during the devastating missile attacks on Camp Liberty.

In carrying out his various responsibilities, the heroic PMOI member Mahmoud Morshed served as a model among his fellow fighters and PMOI comrades.

His fighting spirit and revolutionary dedication inspired the admiration of his comrades, despite his serious illness and the multiple strokes he suffered in recent years.

His remarkable record in the historic struggle of the Mojahedin against both the Shah and the clerical regime will continue to shine and be multiplied a hundredfold in the struggle of his comrades, the Resistance Units, and rebellious youth, particularly in Gorgan and Karaj.

His unwavering and selfless dedication is an invaluable asset of Iran’s oppressed people in the struggle for freedom, the establishment of a democratic republic, and an Iran free from dictatorship and oppression. His dedication serves as a model for rebellious youth.
