Iranian regime returns political prisoner to Evin prison despite illness

On April 3, regime security forces forcibly returned political prisoner Fatemeh Mosanna, 53, to Evin prison despite being seriously ill. Her return to prison was ordered by Amin Vaziri, one of the senior authorities of Evin prison.

Mosanna was put behind bars despite suffering from an intestine infection and according to her doctors, she cannot be treated while she is in prison. Prison authorities had to give her a furlough because of her medical condition and give her time to undergo treatment. But they decided to return her to prison before she could undergo treatment.

Due to physical and mental torture and the poor conditions in Evin prison, Mosanna is suffering from ulcerative colitis and liver problems. She had to be transferred to the hospital on several occasions due to a high fever.

Meanwhile, the Setad organization, controlled by regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei, has confiscated her family’s home, in which her mother and two children live.

Her loved ones are now threatened to be without shelter.

Her husband, Hassan Sadeghi, has been incarcerated in Gohardasht prison for more than five years.

Fatemeh Mosanna was arrested in 1981 when she was only 13 years old. She was subjected to torture for three years. Her brothers Ali, Mostafa, and Morteza were executed in 1982-82 in Evin prison because they were members of the MEK.

In February 2012, Mosanna, her husband , and their two children were arrested for holding a memorial ceremony for Gholamhossein Sadeghi, Hassan’s father, an MEK member who died in Camp Liberty, Iraq, due to a medical blockade imposed by the Iran-backed Iraqi government.

Vaziri, who ordered Mosanna’s return to prison, is a known torturer of the regime’s judiciary and responsible for killing dozens of political prisoners. He played a key role in the murder of political prisoners Alireza Shir Mohammad Ali, Behnam Mahjoubi, Sasan Niknafis, and Baktash Abtin. In addition to torturing prisoners, Vaziri also persecutes their family and subjects them to psychological torment.
