The global campaign to foil Tehran’s plot to free its diplomat terrorist

On Thursday, July 7, freedom-loving Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance entered a new phase in their struggle against the disgraceful agreement between the Belgian government and the Iranian regime.

On Wednesday, the Foreign Relations Committee of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives voted in favor of a shameful treaty with the Iranian regime after two days of heated debate with government authorities. The bill will be put to a final vote in the parliament on Thursday, July 14.

The Iranian Resistance has launched a widespread campaign, holding protest rallies in front of Belgian embassies and consulates in five countries, including Sweden, Germany, Austria, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Similar rallies are being held in France, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Luxembourg.

At the same time, Iranians and Iranian associations across the globe are sending letters of protest to Brussels and Belgian embassies in different countries. Moreover, dignitaries from several countries, politicians, lawmakers, scientists, and Nobel Laureates wrote letters to the government and parliament of Belgium and warned against the implications of freeing the Iranian regime’s diplomat terrorist. In tandem, a wave of media outrage has been unleashed that has put intense pressure on the Belgian government and made it extremely difficult to carry out the shameful deal with Tehran.

As far as the regime and its allies are concerned, they did everything they could to keep this disgraceful agreement under wraps and carry it out without raising any alarm. They were aiming to have it discussed as a peripheral matter in the parliament and quickly have it ratified by lawmakers. But the Iranian Resistance and freedom-loving Iranians intervened and prevented the regime from doing so.

In this regard, it suffices to see how the media reported the deal as it was being debated in the parliament. Even though the bill received enough votes across party lines, the statements made by the opponents to the deal shamed the Belgian government and left government officials with no other excuse than to claim that if convicted Iranian regime diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi is not returned to Iran, the lives of Belgian nationals will be at risk.

In this regard, one prominent Dutch newspaper wrote that the justice minister meant to say that “sometimes, you have to dirty your hands by dealing with Iran’s regime!”

During Wednesday’s parliamentary session, the opponents of the deal objected to the justice minister and demanded access to all protest letters that the government had received from the U.S. Congress and the parliaments of other countries. The minister admitted that so far, the government has received more than 300 emails and promised to make them available to lawmakers. The government finally agreed to publish all the documents related to the deal that it had previously kept secret.

So far, the Iranian Resistance’s campaign has succeeded to expose this deal that was supposed to be carried out in secret. It has now been laid bare for the entire world to see, and rightfully so because its outcome will have direct implications for global peace and security and the fight against terrorism. The ante has been raised for the Belgian government, which will now have to choose between dealing with the devil and joining the struggle against the Iranian regime’s state-sponsored terrorism.
