Regime President Hassan Rouhani continued his lies today during an online meeting of his cabinet with mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. “While the economies of major countries have shrank up to 20 percent, Iran’s economy has only suffered three percent from Covid-19. While coronavirus in all countries has led to increasing unemployment, in Iran unemployment has decreased by 1.1 percent during the Covid-19 era!” Rouhani claimed.

The regime’s president also claimed the number of hospital beds have doubled, medical expenses have decreased significantly, and considerable increases are witnessed in medical supplies, the rate of people’s access to physicians and medical necessities, all during his presidency. These are the reasons “why the number of Covid-19 deaths in our country is lower than many advanced countries!” he added.

Regarding Covid-19 infections among the medical staff, Alireza Zali, the head of the Coronavirus Task Force in Tehran, said, “Comparative statistics show that Iran, the U.S., and Russia are three countries that have the highest absolute value of coronavirus cases among medical staff. The most important reason is the chronic fatigue of medical teams, which is inevitable and has resulted in the downgrading of their immune systems… In Tehran, nearly 25-30 percent of the hospital staff are people who are not on the government payroll, and the hospitals had to hire them to fulfill their needs. This issue has put further pressure on the weak economy of the hospitals in recent years. Unfortunately, no one is taking this issue seriously to once and for all provide support to the country’s healthcare staff.” (Source: Mehr News Agency, August 23)

Nahid Khodakarami, the head of the health committee of Tehran City Council, said, “Until yesterday, 10,200 Tehran residents have lost their lives to coronavirus. On Friday, an eight-year-old child whose parents were doctors died. This shows that all segments of the society have been affected by Covid-19.” (Source: ISNA, August 23)

In Eastern Azerbaijan, the dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University said, “In Eastern Azerbaijan, 80 people are under ventilator support… Ten percent of the province’s population have contracted coronavirus and 1,250 people have lost their lives to the disease. Two thousand of the medical staff have contracted coronavirus.” (Source: ILNA and Mehr news agencies, August 23)

The official IRNA news agency quoted the spokesperson of the health ministry in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad as saying, “In July, the number of cases and hospitalized patients reached their peak in this province. The situation of the disease is still sensitive, volatile and alarming in most counties. The counties of Boyer Ahmad, Charam, Kohgiluyeh, Gachsaran and Lendeh are in code-red conditions.”
