Iran coronavirus update: Over 499,600 deaths, “omicron storm is in the horizon”

Over 499,600 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Sunday afternoon local time, January 23. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 132,230, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 116,685 in Tehran, 34,655 in Isfahan, 14,553 in Alborz, 13,780 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 8288 in Yazd, 8257 in Hormozgan, 6590 in Semnan, 5889 in Qazvin, and 4441 South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Sunday as 28 deaths and 5144 new cases. Furthermore, 1208 patients are in ICUs and 362 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

The novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has taken the lives of over 499,600 people throughout Iran, according to the Iranian opposition PMOI/MEK

“During the past week the number of people seeking initial medical care in various centers has risen and we are concerned in this regard.

This figure was 5,000 higher than last week.

There is this possibility that during the next few weeks patients will be arriving at hospitals, and there is a high probability that we will enter the next peak,” said the regime’s deputy health minister on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“The trend of people across the country contracting omicron is rising exponentially, and we literally have a surplus of daily cases regarding this variant,” said Hamid Souri, an epidemiologist on Sunday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

The number of children under the age of ten contracting coronavirus and those being hospitalized has increased, according to Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force. “Forty three percent of the children hospitalized lacked prior health conditions. The number of those seeking initial medical care is on the rise and there is limited time to manage this issue,” he said on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“One third of the coronavirus patients hospitalized in Khuzestan province are held in special branches. There is no need to wait for a change in the cities’ colorization. From this very day we need to assume that we are in yellow conditions,” said the caretaker of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to ISNA.

“An omicron storm is on the horizon. The omicron variant, with a high contagious rate, is spreading fast with influenza-like symptoms,” according to a statement released Sunday by the Kurdistan Medical Sciences University.

“The increasing number of new cases is a warning, and the alarm bells are sounding. Vaccination stats in some cities and villages are not satisfactory. We may have a peak in the coming week,” said the deputy governor of Ilam province on Sunday, according to ISNA.
