“A large number of people have contracted the virus that go unchecked and in other words the number of cases is more than what we are reporting,” said a senior health expert in Iran on Sunday. “The death toll that we are announcing are those who have tested positive. Therefore, neither the death toll, nor the number of new cases are in fact true. We see this in the Census Report that the additional number of deaths reported last year is far beyond the number of reported Covid-19 deaths,” this expert added according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized has doubled in the fifth wave in comparison to the previous wave,” said Deputy Health Minister Ghasem Jan-Babaie on Saturday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“The current death toll was forecasted from a month ago and it appears it will increase once again. We are far behind in vaccination, and we have yet to vaccinate ten percent of our population. We lost a significant amount of time… we were hesitating when we should have imported the vaccine,” said a senior health official in Tehran on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

In Khuzestan province, head of the Amir Al-Momenin Hospital in Ahvaz said the entire facility is providing medical care to coronavirus patients and the emergency branch has reached its capacity limit. The crowd at the hospital is far beyond the facility’s capacity and ability, this official explained on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours 37 coronavirus patients have lost their lives and this is unprecedented during the past few months. All cities and tows in Gilan province are considered red zones,” said the deputy dean of Gilan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“2901 coronavirus patients are hospitalized across [Isfahan] province. During the past 24 hours we have hospitalized 539 patients and only 347 were released. 35 coronavirus patients lost their lives during this period,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“33 cities are red and another three are orange. 103 percent of our ordinary beds are filled with patients and 83 of our special beds are allocated to Covid-19 patients. More than 4000 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, and 500 cases are identified each day,” said the deputy governor of Fars province on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“Coronavirus in the city of Mahmoud-abad is out of control. All hospital beds are full of patients and there is not even a single empty bed for any patient. 77 patients are hospitalized in nearby cities due to the fact that we have run out of beds,” said the director of Mahmoud-Abad Health Network in Mazandaran province on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The daily death toll of Covid-19 has doubled compared to this year’s average. The number of new coronavirus cases has increased by six-fold in comparison to last month,” said the dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Currently we have 1232 coronavirus patients in our hospitals. During the past 24 hours 23 coronavirus patients have lost their lives,” said dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Pharmacies are facing long lines of people seeking to purchase medicines. The fifth peak has made conditions even worse… Dealers involved in medicine have established a black market outside these pharmacies and are making huge profits. Some people, despite their financial difficulties, are forced to pay millions for their medicine. Some of these black-market dealers are selling their products at up to 15 times the actual prices,” according to a Sunday piece in the state-run Hamshahri daily.
