Iran, July 2, 2021—Over 321,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, July 2. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 84,389, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 75,176 in Tehran, 21,715 in Isfahan, 20,351 in Khuzestan, 19,565 in Razavi Khorasan, 11,943 in West Azerbaijan, 10,802 in Fars, 9138 in Alborz, 7826 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 7388 in Kerman, 6198 in Kermanshah, 5467 in Kurdistan, 4790 in Hormozgan, 3950 in Ardabil, 3484 in in Bushehr, and 2966 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The Health Ministry also announced that Tehran and 91 other cities and towns across 20 of the country’s provinces are registered as red zones, 183 are orange and 173 are yellow, according to a Friday report wired by the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“In half of the country’s provinces we are witnessing the fifth wave’s increasing numbers. 62 cities and towns are registered as red zones, and there will be more. In six or seven provinces we have a significant number of red zone cities, which are mostly in the south and southeast parts of the country. Of the 62 red cities, 50 are located in the south and southeast areas. In provinces such as Tehran and Mazandaran the numbers are increasing,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Thursday, according to the state state-run Entekhab daily.

“The alarm bell of the fifth wave has been sounded, and at any moment there is the possibility of all provinces becoming red zones. If conditions continue as they are the situation in our provinces will get worse with each passing day,” according to a Friday piece wired by the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“Currently the delta variant of coronavirus is spreading across Mashhad and this city will most likely be registered as a red zone in the coming days,” said the head of Mashhad Medical Apparatus Organization on Friday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“The number of daily cases has escalated by 19 percent, those hospitalized each day increased by 15 percent, and those transferred into ICUs by 12.5 percent,” said the dean of Qazvin Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“The number of new cases in Sistan & Baluchistan province has reached 1176. A total of 2300 tests are conducted each day in Sistan & Baluchistan, of which around 39 percent are positive, and 90 percent of the positive cases are of the delta variant,” said the dean of Zahedan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Hormozgan is witnessing its most critical of circumstances. The slow progress in vaccination will lead to heavy waves and new peaks. The government should not surpass the coming months with negligence, leaving the country engulfed with a high number of deaths due to coronavirus as we go through the transition. If the status quo continues our medical staff will be engulfed. Hormozgan has two percent of the country’s population but more than 15 percent of those hospitalized,” said the member of the regimes’ Majlis (parliament) from Hormozgan province on Friday, according to the IRGC-linked Fars news agency.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi expressed her condolences for the loss of life among the already deprived people of Sistan & Baluchistan, Hormozgan and other provinces in the country’s southern and southeast regions. Madam Rajavi called on local youths to rush to the support of those in need.
