“If previous viruses took ten to 12 days to cause dilemmas, the mutated virus take only 48 hours to do so. This is exactly what happened in Khuzestan province. People from different age groups are all prone to this virus. Unfortunately, yesterday there were reports of two children aged 1 and nine dying in Khuzestan province,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Tuesday. “This morning a 21-year-old woman that had no underlying illness died in a Tehran hospital within 48 hours. If youths will need ICUs as elders do, this will make things extremely difficult for us,” he added, according to state TV.

“I was worried about this period of the year… We have a major wave of this illness in Khuzestan. We begged to have the borders closed and the President personally ordered this… Yesterday one of the borders was still open,” Namaki said on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ILNA news agency.

112 cases of the mutated virus have been identified across Iran, according to Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “To this day eight individuals have died of this virus. The mutated virus is spreading across the country and can engulf any city, province or even the entire country, escalating the number of cases as a result,” he added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Today we are on the verge of a new Covid-19 wave involving the mutated version,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“This week we have had a 74 percent increase in the number of new cases, 48 percent increase in deaths and 90 percent increase in the number of new cases,” said a senior health official in Khuzestan province on Tuesday, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

Reports from other provinces all indicate a massive surge in new cases and patients. West Azerbaijan province in northwest Iran is reporting the highest number of patients with chronic breathing syndrome in the past two months.
