“The mutated virus found in the UK, Brazil and South Africa has a high death rate. We are seeing this in Tehran and other cities, and it is circulating around our country now. I have never been so concerned about Covid-19 as I am now,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Sunday. “People are tired. Medical professionals are tired. A country that has experienced negative economic growth is now faced with coronavirus that kills both people and the economy, raises unemployment and inflation, and results in skyrocketing prices. In a country that already had high prices and inflation in double digits… people get tired after some time,” he added, according to state TV.

“The increasing number of coronavirus patients in some provinces comes when we are also witnessing the UK mutated strain. This is alarming as Iran enters the fourth Covid-19 wave,” said the Health Ministry spokesperson on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The number of Covid-19 patients in our hospitals has begun to rise and ICUs are being filled once again,” said the director of the Medical Apparatus Organization’s Public Relations Office on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force said on Saturday that seven cases of the UK strain have been identified in Tehran province. “One of the centers of this new mutated strain has been Tehran province and one of the individuals who contracted this strain died late last week,” he said, according to state TV.

A member of the Tehran City Council Health Committee on Sunday expressed concern about an Iranian version of the mutated Covid-19 and called on the Health Ministry to import ample amount of vaccines, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The speed of the virus’ spread is so fast that in just one week the number of new cases increased by 75 percent and the number of coronavirus patients hospitalized increased by 65 percent,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Ten red zone cities in Khuzestan province comprise over 70 percent of the provincial population. All the residents of these areas are in danger of contracting the virus and this makes conditions extremely difficult,” said the head of the Khuzestan Health Center on Sunday. “We may have other cases of people who have contracted the mutated virus in our province that we are not informed of. We are dealing with a virus that is gaining strength each day in transmitting to other people and it is increasing among the youth. The virus has spread from urban to rural areas and villagers are in danger of contracting the virus,” this official added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

The state controlled Hamshahri daily published an interesting piece on Sunday regarding the regime’s engineered Covid-19 numbers. “It has been one week that the number of new cases per day throughout the country has been above the 7,000 mark. In previous months with these number of new cases the number of deaths were far higher than the current stats. All this is occurring in circumstances that according to experts the virus has neither weakened nor has its intensity decreased.”
