Iran, Dec. 30, 2018 – Students of Tehran’s Research and Science University rallied yet again on Sunday in memory of their fellow classmates who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident on Tuesday, December 25. This latest gathering was held on the campus’ main square, as the students are demanding answers and actions taken to prevent such disasters in the future.
One of the students was heard saying, “Whatever they may say about us, we will not leave this square. Are we any more worthy than the ten individuals who lost their lives in the bus accident? What is to be gained from giving in to living in shame? We are steadfast to the end, following up on this issue in a very serious manner until all of our demands are met.”
Despite vast measures by authorities and dispatching numerous security units to the college campus aiming to prevent any further rallies, the college students were able to coordinate their measures and hold their rally today with such numbers that left the authorities with no choice but giving in to their request of continuing their gathering.
The families and friends of these college students, including those who lost their lives in the bus accident, have been joining the ranks of their loved ones. Numerous mothers of those who perished delivered speeches demanding the expulsion and prosecution of authorities responsible for this tragedy. They are especially demanding action taken against Ali Akbar Velayati, head of the university who is also a senior foreign policy advisor to Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The protesters prepared a 9-article petition announcing their demands.
On Saturday, these students were seen rallying and protesting the death of ten individuals as a university bus fell into a ditch. Authorities quickly dispatched plainclothes agents to the scene to prevent the progression of this rally and fearing it evolving into a major political demonstration.
The students went on to rally outside the university dean’s office building, chanting “Coward, coward,” and demanding authorities come out of the facility and face the students.
None of the university officials and Iranian regime authorities were willing to take part in the commemorating ceremony, sending a few individuals as their representatives. The angry college students turned and showed their backs to these representatives and chanting, "Our back to the enemy, facing the nation."

A bus carrying students of Tehran’s Science and Research Center in Azad University, unfortunately, tipped over, leaving nine students dead and 27 others injured. Head of the Iranian regime’s emergency services said this incident took place at 12:20 pm local time on Tuesday, December 25.
Following this horrific incident, Iranian authorities first dispatched anti-riot units to the scene in fear of possible outbursts of anger turning into anti-regime protests. Families of the university students were seen outside the campus seeking information about their loved ones.
The bus brakes were malfunctioning, leading to this tragic incident, according to a number of the students interviewed after the accident. This shows how regime officials care nothing about people’s safety and continue using such buses to transfer students to and from the campus.
It is worth noting that the deputy university dean first claimed the driver had suffered a heart attack in an attempt to cover up the brake failures.
However, a spokesperson for the Iranian regime’s Emergency Organization said the claim of the driver suffering a heart attack is not confirmed and the forensics must file a report on this matter.
Iran suffers from a significantly high rate of road accidents, with an estimated of at least 17,000 casualties every year. The toll is widely blamed on poor safety, the presence of older vehicles and the inadequacy of emergency services.
Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi sent a message of condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and hoping for a quick recovery of those injured.
“My heart goes out to the students who died in the bus accident. Deepest sympathies to their families and sincere prayers for the quick recovery of those injured. Shame on the corrupt mullah regime that plunders and spends on repression by the billions but leaves roads unattended.
