Floods block roads to seven villages in northeast Iran

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, May 01, 2020—The Iranian regime’s official IRNA news agency wired a report of floods wreaking havoc for the lives of locals in villages of Razavi Khorasan Province in northeast Iran. “Following floods on Thursday, April 30, roads leading to the villages of Babalengar and Sorkh near the city of Khoshab were blocked. Furthermore, landslides also blocked roads leading to the village of Baqmach near the city of Chenaran. These roads are blocked until further notice.”

“Roads connecting the villages of Sange Divar, Lanin Kohneh, Chahar-rah and Khakestar near the city of Kalat, all blocked on Wednesday due to floods, remained closed on Thursday,” according to Ibrahim Nasiri, head of regime’s Road Tolls Department in Razavi Khorasan Province. “Currently, rains have resulted in very slippery conditions in roads connecting Mashhad to Kalat and Sabzevar, Khoshab and Dargaz. Water levels are rising in these areas,” he added.

Based on reports from the Razavi Khorasan Weather Forecast Department, seasonal rains during the past few days have intensified into Friday in north and western parts of this province. Considering the intense nature of these rains, along with hail and strong winds, the possibility of floods and water levels escalating is very high.

Razavi Khorasan Province has 20,575 kilometers of roads, of which 6,422 kilometers are in urban areas and 14,152 kilometers are in rural areas.

Director of the Crisis Management Department in Razavi Khorasan Province said, “Torrential rains in the cities of Sabzevar and Quchan resulted in water levels rising in urban areas and watercourses literally overflowing.

Intense rains, lightning storms and sudden strong winds, along with rising water levels from early this week have been witnessed in various areas of Razavi Khorasan Province since early this week. Forecasts indicate such conditions will continue into the middle of next week.

In Kerman, Ali Bababie, the city governor, also voiced concerns about intense rains on Thursday. “Following the torrential rains, we are witnessing water levels rising across the city of Kerman. This has resulted in various roads, including the Seyedi Bridge.

“Furthermore, a vehicle colliding into a light pole in the Chatroud area left the pole broken and electricity being cut off in three villages of this area. Rains and landslides resulted in damages in various parts of Chatroud Road. The mayor of this area is at the scene to evaluate the damages and resolve the issues,” he added.
