Iran coronavirus update: Over 497,800 deaths, omicron cases rise by nearly 2000 percent

Over 497,800 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, January 15. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 132,044, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 116,285 in Tehran, 40,090 in Razavi Khorasan, 18,065 in Mazandaran, 13,432 in Kerman, 10,825 in Golestan, 9319 in Kermanshah, 6560 in Semnan, and 6378 in North Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Saturday as 18 deaths and 1421 new cases. Furthermore, 1369 patients are in ICUs and 194 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

As omicron spreads across Iran, more reports are surfacing of the regime’s numerous lies and cover-up measures. “Reports of the coronavirus should only be provided by the spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force, and no one should be voicing their opinions to the media as National Covid-19 Task Force members or experts. This will raise concerns among the public,” said regime President Ebrahim Raisi on Saturday.

“The number of positive test results has increased, and this is an alarm bell. Therefore, all medical centers are on high alert,” said Deputy Health Minister Saied Karimi on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The escalating trend of omicron continues as we speak, and we have witnessed an increase of nearly 2000 percent from the last week of December up until yesterday. This has become one of the main concerns among the health experts,” according to a report wired Saturday by the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“We will be facing difficult circumstances if the number of people seeking initial medical care sees a sudden spike. Therefore, we need to take omicron very seriously. Currently, the provinces of North Khorasan, Semnan, Kerman, and Ilam are seeing a rise in the number of people being hospitalized per day. However, Tehran is currently in a fixed position, and we are not seeing a decline in numbers. Of the 3600 tests sent to Tehran’s Pasteur Institute, nearly 850 have been omicron positive, meaning 26 to 27 percent of the suspicious samples sent to the labs were omicron,” according to Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Yesterday we had 134 coronavirus patients hospitalized. There are now 100 coronavirus patients in ICUs of this university,” according to a statement released on Saturday by the Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University.

“The number of coronavirus cases is on the rise. During the past 24 hours, 834 people have sought initial treatment at medical care centers across Khuzestan province,” according to a statement released Saturday by the Ahvaz Medical Sciences University.

“It is possible that a new coronavirus wave has begun in Ardabil province and the main variant is omicron,” said the caretaker dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Saturday while voicing concern over the rising number of omicron cases in this province, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
