Iran coronavirus update: Over 492,400 deaths, new cases to double every two to three days

Over 492,400 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Sunday afternoon local time, December 26. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 131,400, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 115,200 in Tehran, 39,780 in Razavi Khorasan, 33,970 in Isfahan, 17,008 in East Azerbaijan, 13,247 in Kerman, 8112 in Kurdistan, 6230 in Ardabil, 4710 in Zanjan, 4336 in South Khorasan, and 3810 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Sunday as 52 deaths and 1857 new cases. Furthermore, 2774 patients are in ICUs and 316 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“During the past week the rising number of people hospitalized and the death toll in the provinces of South Khorasan, Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad, North Khorasan, Semnan, Kerman, and Zanjan are above the national average,” according to a report wired on Sunday by the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Due to omicron’s high transmission in comparison to previous variants, as of this day the color designation will be based on omicron. As a result, restrictions across the country will be imposed based on these color designations. Even one case of omicron can change a city’s designation into orange status due to the high transmission speed of omicron. If not prevented in time it will lead to the sixth wave,” according to a statement released by the regime’s Health Ministry on Sunday.

“In two to three weeks we will witness a high number of new cases. We will probably enter the sixth peak by January 21. The number of cases will double once in every two or three days, and the number of those hospitalized will double once every four to five days. Schools need to be closed for some time and some restrictions reimposed yet again,” said the director of research in Tehran’s Pasteur Institute on the threats of omicron.

“Five suspicious cases of omicron have been sent to Tehran, and they have all been confirmed. Considering the high transmission rate more people have probably contracted [omicron],” said the spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“Based on the initial results released by the Pasteur Institute the result of the first individual contracting omicron is positive,” said the caretaker of Babol Medical Sciences University in Mazandaran province on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Some schools need equipment for artificial ventilation and the Education Ministry lacks the necessary budget. Unfortunately, in some areas of the country, a significant number of students contracted coronavirus in one classroom,” said the director of hygiene in Isfahan province on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
