“A large number of people across the country are suspicious to have contracted omicron. As time passes the number of people to have contracted omicron will rise,” said Ali Akbar Sari, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Considering the continuing nature of tests, one cannot precisely announce the number of people who have contracted omicron. It is expected that omicron will reach its peak in Iran in the next three to four weeks,” said Hamid Reza Jama’ati, a senior member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past week the number of coronavirus deaths rose 12 percent in [Khuzestan] province,” said the caretaker dean of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University in Ahvaz on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours the number of coronavirus patients in Qom have increased and currently stands at over 100,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“With 100 new patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours, the number of people to have contracted this virus has risen to 616, of which 86 are in ICUs,” according to a report wired by the regime’s official IRIB news agency on Saturday regarding Fars province.

“With over 60 coronavirus patients being hospitalized in the past 24 hours, the number of patients hospitalized stands at 284 [in Mazandaran province], of which 66 are in ICUs,” according to a Saturday report wired by the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Prior to omicron entering the country, signs of influenza and the cold were seen among the students, teachers, and their families. However, no one would listen to the warnings and finally, the National Covid-19 Task Force was forced to acknowledge the entrance of omicron into Iran only after the virus circulated for some time and many of our compatriots contracted the virus. During the coming days the new coronavirus variant will become the first problem before us in major cities, especially Tehran,” according to a Saturday report published by the state-run Arman-e Meli daily.
