Iran’s people express support for opposition despite intensified repression and Covid-19 crisis

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, January 9, 2021—Iranians across the country expressed their full support for the struggle of the Iranian opposition the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) for freedom and democracy. During

the 25th telethon for Simaye Azadi (INTV), the satellite television channel of the Iranian Resistance, the Iranians lent their financial and moral support for the movement’s struggle for freedom.

The program started on Friday, December 8, and will continue for three days. Many of the calls made to the program were from inside Iran, with callers risking arrest for expressing support for the Iranian opposition. In the past, the regime has condemned financial support for the MEK as enmity against god and punished it with executions.

On June 1, 2014, a MEK supporter, Gholamreza Khosravi was arrested and executed for providing financial support for the INTV.

In a letter sent from the Evin prison, a group of political prisoners expressed their support for the 25th telethon.

Many MEK supporters sent video messages from Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Shahr-e Kord, Babol, Jouybar, and Rudsar, stressing that the INTV is the hope and voice for the struggle for freedom in Iran. They bravely introduced themselves as the members of the Iranian Resistance Units, which is the MEK’s vast network inside of Iran.

In the past few years, the MEK has expanded its network inside Iran. The Resistance Units have played an important role in nationwide protests such as the November 2019 uprising.

Also, in previous days the Resistance Units had organized various anti-regime campaigns in Tehran, Isfahan, Karaj, Saravan, Borojerd, Khorramabad, and Shahroud, echoing the slogan: “Down with [regime supreme leader Ali] Khamenei, hail to Rajavi.”

In Tehran, the Resistance Units installed a huge poster of the Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi. “MEK is determined to sacrifice everything for people” the poster reads.

Similar actions were carried out in Karaj, where Resistance Units installed images and posters of Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), in the center of the city while echoing slogans such as “Destiny will be written by Iran’s brave generation with sacrifices” and “The mullahs are afraid of our determination.”

Also, in various places of Tehran, the rebellious and defiant youth burned images and banners of Qassem Soleimani the former commander of the terrorist Quds Force. These acts show the failure of the regime’s propaganda campaign in portraying the terror master as a national hero.

In Mashhad, the brave youths torched a Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Basij suppressive base. The main role of the Basij is to preserve the mullahs’ rule at any cost, through repressive measures against protests and demonstrations. The Basij played a prominent role in quelling the November 2019 protests, in which security forces killed over 1,500 protesters in the span of a few days.

Also following the regime’s criminal policy of ruthlessly banning the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, a group of defiant youths torched the regime’s propaganda banner in front of the so-called Khomeini Relief Foundation, a looting center of Iranian people’s wealth. The Foundation claims to build internal coronavirus vaccines while it will take months until its effectiveness is verified. While the number of Covid-19 victims in Iran is reaching the 200,000 mark under the most conservative assessments, Khamenei has explicitly specifically expressed his opposition to importing vaccines. He left no doubt that he is the first individual responsible for the killing of thousands of deprived Iranians.
