Iran, September 16, 2020—Following the execution of the 27-year-old Iranian wrestling champion Navid Afkari, Resistance Units, the internal network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) organized various anti-regime activities across the country.
The members of the MEK’s network inside of Iran organized activities hailing Navid Afkari as a national hero and pledged to continue his path to overthrow the genocidal mullahs’ regime.
The members of the Resistance Units took to graffiti and spread the anti-regime slogans in nearly 40 cities across Iran to protest Navid Afkari’s execution. In cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Tabriz, Mashhad, Sari, Shahr-e Kord, Karaj, Lordegan, Gorgan, Garmsar, Rasht, Ahvaz, Mahshahr, Bojnourd, Qaemshahr, Marvdasht, Lahijan, Kermanshah, Abadan, Bumahen, Qazvin, Varamin, Qom, Kuhdasht, Kashan, Kerman, Ghaen, Khorramabad, Jahrom, Lorestan, Sonqor, Fasa, Bonab, Eslamshahr, Aliabad-e Katul (Golestan province), and Zahedan, members of the Resistance Units risked their lives to spread the spirit of hope and struggle despite regime’s brutal oppression and recent death sentences against protesters.
Their slogans read:
“Khamenei’s regime cannot avoid public outrage, we will neither forget, nor forgive”
“We will avenge Navid Afkari’s execution and ask the world to support the Iranian people”
“We will overthrow the regime, despite the executions”
“The only solution to prevent executions of more youth like Navid is to revolt and protest”
“We will avenge Navid’s execution”
“Navid will be multiplied and rise up against the regime”
“We will continue Navid’s path”
The Resistance Units also installed huge banners of the Iranian Resistance Leader Massoud Rajavi and Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), in public places of various cities. These activities are taking place while the regime has been handing out heavy prison sentences to supporters of the MEK. The activities of the Resistance Units in the current circumstances of the Iran’s society breaks the atmosphere of fear and despair the mullahs try to impose with repression, daily executions, and arresting dissidents.
Under the current circumstance, the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei desires to boost the declining morale of its own forces, who are terrified of the explosion of public outrage. Meanwhile, keeping alive the flame of the resistance and rebellious spirit among youth by honoring the life of Navid Afkari and other brave protesters makes it clear that sooner or later the Iranian people and their resistance movement will overthrow the mullahs.
Navid Afkari was arrested by security forces for taking part in popular protests in 2018 and was sentenced to death after being tortured and forced to confess to crimes he had not committed.
Rebellious spirit of Iran’s young generation terrifies the mullahs
In recent days, the rebellious young generation targeted three Basij bases in Isfahan, Khorramabad, and Eslamshahr. The Basij are the most hated suppressive paramilitary force inside Iran and a subsidiary of the terrorist designated Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). Its main role is to preserve the mullahs’ rule through the crackdown of protests and demonstrations, such as the November 2019 nationwide uprising.
In Shiraz a center for spread of fundamentalism, affiliated to the mullah Naser Makarem Shirazi, the representative of Khamenei in Shiraz, was torched by the defiant youth, while similar activities were carried out in northern city of Sari.
Also, in Sonqor, Kermanshah Province, an office of the Guardian Council was targeted by the defiant youths. The Guardian Council is a body of officials overseen and appointed by Khamenei, which strictly controls rules and regulations to make sure they are adherent with the fundamentalist ideology of the mullahs.
On September 15, many youths torched Khamenei’s images across the country in protests and outrage to Navid Afkari’s execution.
