Iran: More regime centers targeted amid growing repression

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 3, 2020—The front gate of the general court of Khavaran district, Tehran province, was targeted by the rebellious youth of the area on Tuesday night. The court had previously issued orders to destroy the homes of impoverished people who had created makeshift buildings to have a roof above their heads.

The act comes against the backdrop of increased repression by regime authorities to intimidate the public and detract the people from coming to the streets and expressing their rage and frustration at their rulers. The regime has been especially brutal toward political prisoners, executing and torturing protesters who had taken part in nationwide protests.

But as these acts show, the regime’s efforts to contain the explosive state of the society have had a reverse effect and have spurred the rebellious youth to continue to manifest their desire to overthrow the regime despite the environment of repression.

Khavaran court is one of several judiciary establishments targeted in recent weeks. The Iranian regime's judiciary is notorious for its role in handing out harsh sentences against prisoners and giving orders to make life harder than it already is for the Iranian people. Earlier this week, a court in Shiraz was targeted. The court had issued the death sentence for wrestling champion Navid Afkari, who had been arrested and tortured on charges of taking part in anti-regime protests in 2018.

Throughout this week, more courageous acts by the Iranian youth targeted regime icons and the headquarters of the regime’s suppressive forces. A video obtained from Isfahan shows the entrance of a basij base set on fire by the rebellious youth of the city. The basij, a subdivision of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), is the main force used in cracking down on protests and suppressing people who do not abide by the fundamentalist laws of the mullahs. It is much hated among the Iranian people.

Again in Isfahan, the youth set fire to a center for the spread of fundamentalism. These are headquarters used by the regime to spy on locals and to enforce the outdated teachings of the mullahs.

In Tehran, the youth set fire at the entrance gate of a basij base in Javidnia. The act demands a lot of courage, especially as the regime has increased the presence of security forces across the capital in fear of the eruption of popular protests.

The rebellious youth are also setting fire to banners and posters of regime leaders and icons, which are spread across Iran’s cities. In Iranshahr, a banner that praised the basij and the regime’s eight-year war against Iran, which cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Iranians, was set on fire on Tuesday night.

In Karaj, the youth set fire on a large poster of Ali Khamenei, the regime’s supreme leader. In Khaf, Razavi Khorasan province, a newly installed poster of Qassem Soleimani, the now-dead terror mastermind of the regime, was set on fire. Soleimani, who was in charge of the regime’s extraterritorial terrorism operations and its destructive meddling in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and other countries of the region, was killed in a drone strike on January 3. Since then, the regime has tried to portray him as a national hero, installing posters of him everywhere across the country. In response, Iranian youth, who hate the regime’s terrorist meddling as much as they hate its domestic suppression, have been tearing down and torching Soleimani’s posters wherever they appear.

In Karaj, the youth set fire to the headquarters of female basij members. The “women’s unit” of basij is especially hated for its role in implementing the regime’s misogynistic laws and suppressing women who do not abide by the regime’s forced hijab laws. They also have an active role in cracking down on protests by women and girls who stand up for their rights.

The youth of Karaj also set fire to another basij base in Karaj. In Shar-e Ray, south of the capital, the rebellious youth set fire to a large poster of Khamenei on Friday.

Meanwhile, Iranian Resistance Units, a network of activists associated with the People’s Mojahedin organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), continued to spread the message of the Iranian Resistance and call for the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime.

In Karaj, the Resistance Units installed a poster of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi in the street, which read, “The November 2019 uprising proved the only way to freedom is to revolt.”

In Azadshahr, Golestan province, the Resistance Units installed a poster of Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), with the slogan: “Democracy, freedom, with Maryam Rajavi,” a reference to the president-elect’s ten-point plan for the future of Iran. Resistance Units carried out similar activities on the shores of Bandar-e Anzali.

In Tonekabon, a graffiti written by Resistance Units reads, “No to the mullahs, no to the Shah, yes to the NCRI.”

In Tehran, the Resistance Units installed a poster that reiterated Massoud Rajavi’s call for the dissolution of the IRGC and the overthrow of the regime. It is a known fact among the Iranian people that the IRGC is the main source of Iran’s economic bankruptcy and the poor response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Resistance Units have played a prominent role in highlighting the IRGC’s crimes. In Karaj, the Resistance Units installed a handwritten poster which read, “The IRGC is the perpetrator of all crimes.” In Kerman, a poster read, “The mullahs are the main cause of the coronavirus outbreak.”

Thanks to these efforts, the slogan of annihilating the IRGC has reverberated across Iran in recent weeks, to the point that regime officials were forced to officially respond to the issue on national television and try to vindicate the Guards.

In Isfahan, the Resistance Units scribbled graffiti on the walls in different locations and vowed to avenge the death of Navid Afkari.
