Iran, August 28, 2020—On Thursday, August 27, a group of District 7 municipality workers in the city of Ahvaz, southwest Iran, held a protest rally.
Workers of the Ahvaz Municipal Executive Unit gathered in front of the District Municipality building demanding their delayed paychecks and authorities to address their problems.
“The contractor has not paid our paychecks for six months,” the workers said.

On Wednesday, August 26, a group of workers in Abadan, southwest Iran, gathered in the municipality courtyard protesting delayed paychecks for several months and seeking answers to other demands.
According to one of the workers, their demands range in three areas and entities affiliated to the Abadan Municipality have not been paid since December 2018. This includes overtime, holiday working and night shifts.
Retirees in Ahwaz continue their protests—August 26, 2020
On Wednesday, August 26, a group of retirees in Ahvaz protested the social security office not taking into account their hard work conditions and an adjustment plan in determining their pensions.
According to one of the retirees, the officials had previously announced that the adjustment plan will be implemented from the first of August and the pensioners’ minimum salary of the pensioners will reach 28 million rials per month (about $120). To this day, however, none of the officials’ promises have been fulfilled.
Workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company on the 74th day of their strike—Shush, southwest Iran—August 27, 2020
On Thursday, August 27, workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company continued their protest rally in front of the MP office in the city of Shush in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran. The strike has continued for 74 consecutive day.
The most important issues raised by these workers during this strike are as follows:
Immediate payment of delayed paychecks and renewal of their insurance booklets
Immediate return to work for fired colleagues
Immediate arrest of Omid Assadbeigi (CEO of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industrial Complex) and life imprisonment for this corrupt individual
Immediate dismissal of corrupt employers from Haft Tappeh
Immediate return of embezzled wealth to the workers
Ending the careers of already retired managers

Iran: 27th day of refinery workers’ strike
On Thursday, August 27, workers of Iran’s oil and gas refineries, petrochemicals, and power plants continued their strike for the 27th consecutive day in 24 cities across 12 provinces.
All contractors from the “Tehran Jonoob” company, along with welders and repairmen, are still on strike.
The strike in Abadan refinery continues and the workers have not accepted an offer of 85 million rials (about $368) for 24 working days.
The employers of the “Toos Asphalt Company” and the “Urmia Combined Cycle Power Plant” are also refusing to pay June wages to put pressure on the workers and defeat the strike.
