Iran, January 5, 2021—While the turn of the year is a time of celebration for people across the world, the regime in Iran has been ramping up repression and executions and used the occasion as an opportunity to inflict more damage and pain on a people that is already facing the pressure of the coronavirus pandemic and deteriorating economic conditions.
On Sunday, regime authorities in Ardebil Central Prison executed a male inmate named Hadi Hosseini Mirak.
Mirak, 26, was an auto-mechanic engineering student and an expert at the Iran Khodro institution. According to reports obtained from inside the prison, Mirak suffered from Wilson’s disease. A few days before his execution, Mirak had attempted suicide. The prison’s physician had prescribed two weeks of rest for him. But the regime executed him a day after he was discharged from the hospital.
In response to protests at the execution of Mirak, the head of the prison said, “If we don’t carry out the execution, we can’t control the prisoners.”
The regime’s state-run media did not report the execution of Mirak.

Other reports from Zahedan, southeast Iran, indicate that the regime hanged three inmates in Zahedan prison on Sunday. Political prisoners Hassan Dehvari and Elias Ghalandar-Zehi were executed after spending seven years behind bars in Zahedan prison. The third prisoner, Omid Mahmoud-Zehi, had been in prison since since 2015.
Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), reported the executions and claimed: “Hassan Dehvari and Elias Ghalandar-Zehi were executed for taking part in terrorist actions.”
The brutal act comes on the heels of the execution of another Baluch political prisoner, Abdolhamid Mir-Baluch-Zehi, who was executed on December 26.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), condemned these executions and described the successive executions of Baluch political prisoners as a “massacre of political prisoners and a crime against humanity.” Mrs. Rajavi again urged the United Nations Security Council to take action in this regard.
Consecutive executions of Baluchi political prisoners, particularly after years of imprisonment, is tantamount to the massacre of political prisoners which is an ongoing crime against humanity. Once again, I call for action by the UN Security Council. #StopExecutionsinIran

On New Year’s Eve, the regime executed three Sunni prisoners in Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison. Hamid Rastbala, Kabir Sa’adat Jahani, and Mohammad Ali Arayesh, the prisoners, had spent five years in prison and send to the gallows on charges of being “outlaws.”
The three prisoners were taken to solitary confinement on the eve of their execution and were hanged without their families knowing. The prisoners had endured severe torture during their imprisonment.
Madam Rajavi has repeatedly called on the international community, especially the UN, to intervene and take concreate action to put a stop to executions in Iran.
I urge the international community, especially the United Nations Secretary-General and other #HumanRights organizations to intervene immediately to stop the executions, secure the release of the prisoners, and prevent a major humanitarian catastrophe in prisons of #Iran pic.twitter.com/6F8jHi7J75

Mohammad Hassan Rezaiee was executed in Rasht prison on New Year's Eve
In another act of utter brutality, the regime executed Mohammad Hassan Rezaiee in Rasht Prison on December 31. Rezaiee, who was 16 years old at the time of his arrest, had served more than 13 years in prison and had been forced to confess under torture. During his trial in 2008, Rezaiee had clearly stated that his confessions had been made under torture.
In a statement, the NCRI described the execution as “a clear violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child”
The regime executed Rezaiee despite repeated protests from human rights organizations, proving once again that the mullahs’ rule will not last a day without torture and execution.
“Execution of Mohammad Hassan Rezaie, arrested at the age of 16, after 13 years in jail, shows the appalling nature of Iran’s regime,” Mr. Mohammad Mohaddessin, the Chairman of the NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee, said. Mohaddessin once again urged the international community to save the lives of death row inmates in Iran, especially juvenile offenders.
