Iran coronavirus update: Over 380,500 deaths, state media stats higher than regime numbers

Iran, August 23, 2021—Over 380,500 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, August 23. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 102,648 around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 89,496 in Tehran, 26,285 in Razavi Khorasan, 25,240 in Isfahan, 23,486 in Khuzestan, 14,785 in Mazandaran, 13,953 in East Azerbaijan, 13,550 in Lorestan, 13,432 in Fars, 13,403 in West Azerbaijan, 12,835 in Gilan, 11,340 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 11,118 in Alborz, 10,805 in Qom, 9798 in Kerman, 9115 in Golestan, 7538 in Hamedan, 7363 in Markazi (Central), 6758 in Kermanshah, 6613 in Yazd, 6580 in Hormozgan, 6072 in Kurdistan, 4675 in Ardabil, 4346 in Bushehr, 3481 in South Khorasan, 3010 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and 2859 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Monday as 610 deaths and 38,657 new cases. Furthermore, 7695 patients are in ICUs (new pandemic record) and 5108 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“This past week we witnessed a five percent increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases and a 12.5 percent increase in the number of coronavirus deaths in comparison to last week. (Last week) the provinces of Ilam, North Khorasan, Mazandaran, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and Golestan witnessed the highest number of positive cases being hospitalized across the country. The highest death toll were in the provinces of Qom, Golestan, Gilan, and Mazandaran,” said the spokesperson of the regime’s Health Ministry on Monday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

The stater-run Nasim Online website wrote on Monday that the coronavirus death toll until August 20 had reached 245,000. This is 2.4 times the official stats released by the regime.

 

 

In Tehran, the head of the Medical Apparatus issued a letter to regime Health Minister Saeed Namaki protesting the confidentiality of the information of those contracting Covid-19 among the country’s health workers. “Information regarding the contraction and death toll among those who have received two vaccine doses should be placed at the disposal of the National Covid-19 Task Force and researchers trusted by the Medical Apparatus. This is necessary for us to quickly decide about a booster vaccine dose for our medical professionals using a vaccine authorized by the World Health Organization that has acceptable impact. Delay in this regard will lead to dangerous consequences,” the letter reads in part, according to the state-run Salamat News website on Monday.

“Currently we have 670 dire coronavirus patients receiving medical care in ICUs. This figure is rising as we speak,” according to a statement released by the Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University on Monday.

“The conditions of patients in Dezful are critical and their numbers are very high. Currently the Ganjuyan Hospital has reached its capacity and patients are waiting for beds to become available,” said the dean of Dezful Medical Sciences University on Monday.

 

 

“During the past 24 hours 624 patients have been hospitalized while 379 were released. Currently we have 3571 patients hospitalized across the country. During the past 24 hours 41 patients have lost their lives,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Monday.

“An unprecedented number of 679 new coronavirus patients were hospitalized in just the past 24 hours. Currently we have 5104 patients hospitalized,” according to a statement released by the Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Monday.

“Around 1000 coronavirus patients are hospitalized in Qom and each night we are thinking of how to provide more beds. Most the patients have not been vaccinated,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized in [East Azerbaijan] province has reached its peak. Currently we have over 1700 coronavirus patients hospitalized. This is the highest number of coronavirus patients we have had since the beginning of this illness in this province,” said the dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the Mehr news agency.
