“The death toll in Iran is more than the European Union with a population of around 450 million. Provide vaccines without any limits through any methods and from anywhere possible,” said a senior health official on Wednesday, according to the state-run Asr-e Iran daily.

Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi apologized on Wednesday for the unsuccessful domestic vaccine campaign. “We have a serious problem in accepting patients into our hospitals. For the first time we have a record number of patients seeking initial medical care for Covid-19. On Tuesday we had 27,444 new positive cases, 3036 new coronavirus patients hospitalized, and 250 coronavirus deaths… The delta virus can spread much easier and as a result the number of people hospitalized and the death will increase,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of coronavirus patients has multiplied in comparison to the fourth peak. All the country’s hospitals are involved in providing care for coronavirus patients,” said a senior official of Tehran’s renowned Masih Daneshvari Hospital on Wednesday, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“Currently we have 925 patients hospitalized for coronavirus which is unprecedented since the start of the pandemic,” said the spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). The deputy governor of this province said hospitals are packed and called for a full-week shutdown of the entire province, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

On Wednesday, the dean of the Bushehr Medical Sciences University referred to the increasing number of patients entering hospitals, adding the facilities are reaching their maximum capacities and the province is registering record numbers in new cases. During the past 24 hours they had 600 new cases in Bushehr province, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The situation in Mazandaran province and the city of Babol specifically are critical. From a week ago the number of patients seeking initial medical care for Covid-19 has increased by 200 to 250 percent, and the number of those hospitalized has increased significantly,” said the dean of Babol Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the state-run IMNA news agency.

“The number of people hospitalized for coronavirus has hit the four-digit mark and currently stands at 1003,” said the dean of Golestan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
