Madam Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), voiced her condolences to the grieving families and wished speedy recoveries for those ill. The mullahs’ regime, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and President Hassan Rouhani are responsible for most of the 300,000 coronavirus victims. Iran has the highest number of coronavirus deaths per capita in all countries across the globe with a wide margin.

Khamenei is seeking mass casualties as a deterrent against nationwide uprisings that threaten the very foundations of his regime. Using Covid-19 and by unifying his regime’s factions, Khamenei is seeking to contain the overthrow crisis facing his rule. Otherwise, he could have allocated a portion of the hundreds of billions in assets he has stolen from the Iranian people to significantly limit the scope of this catastrophe. This wealth is currently controlled by his foundations and the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

On one hand Khamenei refused to provide for Iran’s laborers and other hardworking people for a few months, forcing them to go to work without even minimum medical safety measures. On the other hand, Khamenei banned any and all purchases of vaccines from then U.S., the United Kingdom and France. As the regime’s own experts have acknowledged, general vaccination will not be realized even by March 2022 and the majority of Iran’s population are vulnerable in the face of future waves.

In recent months, growing protests by workers, pensioners, creditors, and other communities has shown that the regime’s policy to inflict maximum casualties on the Iranian people has only intensified public hatred toward the regime and has made the people more determined to overthrow the regime.

Given the worsening situation of the coronavirus outbreak, Mrs. Rajavi called on Iranians of all walks of life to rise and stand up against the crimes and corruption of the mullahs’ regime to reclaim their rights.
