While the number of Covid-19 victims are rising with each passing due to the regime’s criminal and plundering policies, regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei made new deceptive remarks on Friday on this topic. “Last year following our officials’ warnings in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, I said one thing to the people, and people completely abided by these words during the Nowruz (Iranian calendar New Year) period. As a result, it prevented a major catastrophe that could have engulfed the country,” Khamenei said on Friday. “This year I believe the threat is more serious than last year… As a result, this year people must again abide by the protocols announced by the National Covid-19 Task Force… I certainly will not travel. Just like last year,” he added.

It is worth noting that on March 3, 2020, Khamenei had made these specific remarks regarding the coronavirus outbreak: “In our opinion this doesn’t appear to be such a major issue. There have been worse. We have seen some cases in our country.”

“We are playing chess with this virus, making decision by the minute,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Friday, according to state TV.

“We have had a ten percent increase in the number of deaths in comparison to last week. We have also had a 19 percent increase in new patients hospitalized and 12 percent increase in the number of beds allocated for Covid-19 patients,” said the Health Network director in the city of Shahriar near Tehran on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Announcing a red zone is not playing with colors. Following such a decision, there needs to be certain measures adopted,” said the dean of Abadan Medical Sciences University on Friday. “If the status quo continues and further limitations are not imposed, we may face a catastrophe in Khuzestan province regarding the number of new patients hospitalized and a higher death toll. We believe Khuzestan should be quarantined for two weeks and commuting blocked into the province,” this official said, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Head of the Abuzar Hospitali in Ahvaz said the number of children hospitalized for Covid-19 has more than doubled in the past two weeks. The speed of coronavirus’ transmission is concerning in the cities of Shadegan, Khorramshahr and Abadan, according to another health official in Khuzestan.

“The daily death rate in Fars province is now in double digits once again for the first time in two months. A total of 3276 people have died of Covid-19 in this province,” said the director of public relations in Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

The dean of Qom Medical Sciences University reported a five-fold increase in the number of positive Covid-19 tests. “The next peak in Qom will not be of the Wuhan virus and we will be witnessing the mutated UK strain,” this official said on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“In the 11 cities of Markazi province (other than Zarandiyeh), reports indicate confirmed cases of the UK strain. First stats show more than 456 UK strain cases, and it appears these numbers will be higher,” said the deputy dean of Arak Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
