Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force said on Monday that in the past 24 hours once again the number of people hospitalized for coronavirus has surpassed the 2,000 mark. The number of new people being hospitalized for Covid-19 was under 200 per day, but has now reached 342, he added. “Around 110 people are in ICUs while in the past few days this number was mostly under 100. Our dismissals in the past 24 hours was 290, which is again less than the number of new patients being hospitalized. For a long period, we usually had two to three thousand people seeking medical treatment. In the past 24 hours this has reached the 6,000 mark,” Zali continued, according to the Latest Tehran News telegram channel.

In some hospitals the number of people seeking medical care has doubled and the reopening of schools and other such hasty measures created crowded areas that led to a new and stronger transfer of the virus, said the deputy chair of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Monday. If such conditions continue, we will most certainly reach the fourth peak, this official added, according to the Medical Apparatus Organization website.

“In the week leading to January 29 we had a 15 percent increase in the number of people hospitalized, 14 percent increase in the number of deaths and 27 percent increase in the number of new cases across Khuzestan province,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Monday. “We had a 600 percent increase in new cases in the city of Howeyzeh, 245 percent increase in Shushtar, and a 169 percent increase in Shush,” this official added, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“The status quo indicates a new rise in the number of new cases across the city of Bonab,” said the local mayor on Sunday, according to the IRGC-linked Fars news agency.

“Currently the average number of people seeking medical treatment and those hospitalized for Covid-19 has increased by ten to 15 percent,” said the deputy dean of Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the Fars news agency.

Despite the increasing number of new cases and concerns over a fourth wave, the policies adopted by regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani have left no hope for a vaccine. “Arrangements are made for 16 million doses of the vaccine from COVAX, more than 25 million from imports and another 25 million by using domestic production. As a result, general vaccination will begin next winter,” said the chair of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee on Monday. “Next spring and early summer people above the age of 65 will receive the vaccine, along with people from 16 to 64 years of age who have underlying illnesses. In August people living in very crowded areas and those between the ages of 55 to 65 will be vaccinated. In the fourth phase, the entire population will be vaccinated as the next winter season begins ,” the official added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency. Therefore, people under the age 55, which make up 85 percent of Iran’s population, will have to wait until next winter to be vaccine.

“We are having problems in procuring the vaccine and I am not sure if a large number of doses will arrive before April,” said Alireza Raisi, the spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Monday. “People will no longer trust us if we as medical professionals provide contradictory remarks… Such remarks cause turmoil and people will lose their trust,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Nurses are not willing to inject the Russian vaccine or any vaccine not approved by the World Health Organization,” said the Secretary General of Iran’s House of Nurses on Monday. “Nurses are not lab mice to check unapproved vaccines with,” this official added, according to the state controlled Hamdeli daily.
