“To this day 60,000 members of the state police have contracted Covid-19 and 96 have lost their lives,” said the spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Monday, according to state TV.

“Government officials in Iran should take urgent action on purchasing standard vaccines and honestly and transparently announcing the priority of those who need it based on who is more vulnerable,” said the head of Iran’s Medical Apparatus Council on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“If officials begin procuring foreign Covid-19 vaccines today it will be provided to the people in one month. When Iraq can purchase and maintain these vaccines, why don’t our officials purchase a number of these vaccines for our medical professionals?” asked an official of Tehran’s renowned Masih Daneshvari Hospital on Tuesday. “The people will be suffering from any delay in purchasing these vaccines,” the official added, according to the state-controlled Jahan-e San’at newspaper.

“The Expediency Council has evaluated rejoining the Financial Action Task Force initiative to launch the measures needed to establish financial relations with the international banking system and thus expediate the purchase of coronavirus vaccines,” said a member of the Tehran City Council on Tuesday. “We are in such circumstances that we don’t know what the next crisis will be and we need to take adequate measures,” the official added, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Time and again we have said that due to the complex nature of this illness and its high contagion, and also the fact that social distancing is a very difficult issue, again our major cities like Tehran are in fragile and unstable conditions,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday. “In the past 24 hours we have had 300 patients hospitalized in Tehran, of which 101 are in ICUs. Our indexes in Tehran have not changed significantly in comparison to last week,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Director of the Ahar Medical Network said this city in East Azerbaijan province, northwest Iran, is in fragile conditions. “Many people have contracted Covid-19. Mobile units conducting tests indicate a high contamination rate in the city of Ahar and at least 40 percent of the tests are resulting positive,” the official added on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“This year our nurses have been paid once every three months and have not received any pay for their overtime work from June onward,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“My colleagues have been wearing gowns and been away from their families for ten months now, all the while providing medical care to the public,” said a senior medical official in Lorestan province on Tuesday. “Medical professionals and our people deserve to see the government procure Covid-19 vaccines. I highly doubt that our economic conditions are worse than the war-hit Iraq. How much does it cost to buy 100 million doses of vaccines that our officials are constantly cooking up excuses? This is nothing for our country with such vast natural resources. That is why we are still emphasizing on purchasing foreign vaccines because it is a national demand and our people’s right,” he added, according to the state-controlled Janah-e San’at newspaper.

“Even a one-day delay in vaccination can lead to massive consequences for our society. Why can’t we purchase foreign-made vaccines like other countries? When we are talking about people’s lives, especially in such high numbers, why are our politicians refusing to change their wrong policies in order to maybe save people’s lives,” according to an article published on Tuesday in the state-controlled Sharq newspaper.
