Regime President Hassan Rouhani refusing to attend today’s session at the Majlis (parliament) discussing next year’s budget has resulted in major internal disputes among regime officials. Rouhani based his absence in the Majlis session on "following protocols adopted by the National Covid-19 Task Force” that “we must implement and execute as legal and even religious duties.”

“Rouhani did not take part in the Majlis session fearing Covid-19. This is an insult to 85 million Iranians. Rest assured you will not die of Covid-19 because death will not come for you during your time of service. Look at the destiny of rulers who betrayed the nation, you can choose from any of them,” said Ahmad Moradi, a Majis member from the city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran said on Wednesday, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“We expected the President to show necessary coordination with the Majlis regarding these issues. Our colleagues have no information about the latest measures adopted by the National Covid-19 Task Force regarding the economic sector. On issues related to cultural and art matters, due to negligence this sector is literally being destroyed and we have no information on this subject,” said a Majlis member from the city of Kerman on Wednesday, according to a report wired by the Majlis’ news agency.

“Conditions in Tehran province are very fragile. We need to trek forward with calm and necessary planning. Tehran has been an orange zone since Saturday, yet some restrictive measures such as preventing religious ceremonies, employees showing up for work in administrative offices and night curfews for commuting will continue,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force, on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“A change in the number of patients is not related to the restrictions imposed in the past two weeks. The impact of these restrictions will be witnessed in the next two weeks. Any change in the number of people hospitalized and deaths will be seen in the coming 10 to 14 days. Restrictions must continue in strong fashion in order to get the desired results,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“From January 21 to yesterday 63,500 patients have been hospitalized in hospitals supervised by the Isfahan Medical Sciences University,” said the deputy dean of this university on Wednesday. “Of this total around 6700 (3800 men and 2900 women) lost their lives. 166 patients under the age of 18 lost their lives. On the medication, Remdesivir, we had a black market where this 20-million-rial ($77) medicine was sold at 700 million rials (nearly $2700),” the deputy dean added, according to the Mehr news agency. “In the past 24 hours 41 people lost their lives,” said the spokesperson of this university.

The dean of East Azarbaijan Medical Sciences University said nearly 70,000 people have contracted Covid-19. “Five percent (3500 people) of those who contracted have lost their lives,” said the dean of East Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“The hallways of Beheshti Hospital of this city are full of patients,” said the director of the Network of Hygiene and Treatment in the city of Astara, northern Iran on Tuesday, according to the ISNA news agency.

In Mazandaran province of northern Iran, “we are continuing to witness Covid-19 spreading in mass numbers. During the past two days, the number of people contracting this virus in our province has been in double digits. Yet in the past 24 hours, we have seen these numbers double and this trend continues. The number of people hospitalized stands at 869, of which 182 in ICUs,” according to a Tuesday report wired by the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
