Floods in Iran – 100,000 people of Ahvaz in danger

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, April 9, 2019 – Incoming reports from the oil-rich province of Khuzestan in southwest Iran indicate more cities, towns, and villages are in danger of being flooded by rising waters. There is no sign of state aid and people are taking matters into their own hands, sources say.

“More than 100,000 people in areas close to Ahvaz are endangered by floodwaters. The situation in this city is not ordinary at all and the threat of floodwaters are endangering the highly populated areas of this large city,” according to a regime official.

Abdullah Sameri, a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) from Khorramshahr, Khuzestan Province, acknowledged the fact that the regime cannot control these flood conditions.

“The government cannot control the flooded cities and towns of Khuzestan Province,” he said.

Numerous roads to villages and towns around the province are reportedly closed. Many administrative bodies have been closing down due to floodwaters surrounding their offices.

Villagers near the city of Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province, have been seen taking a variety of initiatives to repair nearby flood barriers in order to protect their home and property.

The railway near the town of Ahudasht is also seeing floodwaters endanger the use of this important route.

With no state aid in sight, many of the flood barriers erected by the people have given in to the rising water pressures.

Numerous videos posted on the internet show people going the distance to protect their livelihoods.

This footage was sent from an area south of Ahvaz.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has sent messages encouraging the Iranian people across the country to establish popular committees to muster aid to those in need. This is especially important considering the fact that the regime ruling Iran cares nothing about the people and will not come to their support.
