Iran, January 13, 2020—Members of the Iranian American community in California gathered in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 11, to hold a convention in support of the Iranian people’s uprising and the opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).
American dignitaries such as former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, former Marines commandant General James Conway (ret.), Senator Robert Torricelli, Ambassador Lincoln Bloomfield, Professor Ivan Sasha Sheehan took part and delivered speeches in support of the Iranian people’s struggle to establish freedom and democracy in Iran.

Participants and speakers at this event condemned the downing of the Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 over a town near Tehran by the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and once again voiced their support for the Iranian people’s uprising and “Resistance Units.” They also called for the prosecution and accountability of those involved in the killing spree against the Iranian people.
NCRI President Maryam Rajavi sent a message to the convention referring to the IRGC shooting down the Ukrainian airliner that left 176 innocent people killed. Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei always takes “hard revenge” from the Iranian people and simultaneously threatens the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Albania, Madam Rajavi added.

“The Iranian regime has received irreparable blows. Topping them all was the Iran uprising in November. The elimination of the terrorist Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, delivered a crushing blow to the strategy of export of fundamentalism and terrorism,” she said.
“The regime had not had anyone like terror master Soleimani over the past 40 years. Single-handedly, he embodied the depravity and ruthlessness of the mullahs’ regime. All of the regime’s internal factions were united in supporting him,” Madam Rajavi stressed.
The mullahs’ strategy of exporting reactionism and terrorism due to the uprisings in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon, is crumbling as we speak, Madam Rajavi continued. The dawn of a free Iran can now be seen in the relentless uprising and the struggle of resistance units, the NCRI President stressed.
“We seek to establish a democratic, free and progressive Iran based on people’s free choice and suffrage, based on the separation of religion and state, based on pluralism, gender equality, autonomy of the oppressed ethnic groups, and abolition of the death penalty. The political groups and parties, Iranian and non-Iranian, who benefit from the continued rule of the mullahs’ regime are reeling over the Soleimani’s termination,” the NCRI President highlighted.

Speakers at this convention described the killing of IRGC Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani, who murdered PMOI/MEK members, played a major role in the regime’s crackdown campaign against the Iranian people’s uprising and was a known terrorist, as a significant and irreparable setback for the mullahs’ regime. This is a major step in expediting the process of overthrowing the mullahs’ regime in Iran.
